Congratulations to our HQC Stable Challenge Winner!
The USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Stable Challenge wrapped up July 15.

To participate, at least three junior and/or amateur students per trainer had to take the online Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Practice Quiz between June 15 and July 15. At the end of the 30-day challenge, the three top scores under each trainer were averaged to provide an overall score and the highest scoring trainer per zone is the winner.

Congratulations to Zone 1's winner is Emer Coyne and Avon Valley Show Stables!

The highest scoring trainer in each USHJA zone wins a unique trainer-inspired award package designed to benefit the entire barn, which includes a gift card from Nutrena, a Shapley's gift set, a one-year USHJA membership, a free 2022 Recognized Riding Academy membership and additional awards from USHJA sponsors. The highest scoring trainer overall will also receive an Essex Classics shirt.

USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Spotlight: Well-A-Way Riding
We heard from Michele Goodrich with Well-A-Way Riding, a USHJA Recognized Riding Academy in Simsbury, Connecticut.

Tell us a little about your program and who you serve.
Each lesson begins with a priority in safety on and off the horse. Using our 444 method (four aides, four angles, four corners) riders learn etiquette and a physical understanding for horses, ring and position from the start. We offer ground school and a mentor/mentoree program. Instructors are in professional development classes each week and are all safe sport certified.

What made you want to become a Recognized Riding Academy?
It aligns with my core belief in providing an immersive environment for learning horsemanship skills and proper riding along with a strong focus on safety of horse and rider. It provides a solid education base for riders to show care and empathy for horses while receiving consistent training in an encouraging and positive environment.

Tell us about your star lesson horse and why he/she is the best lesson horse around!
Rufus is the epitome of my program. He is safe, smart and a true teacher. Our riders learn to sit correctly-he's well balanced-and he's our go to for the first canter. He is gentle, sweet and very careful. He provides the right level of patience and partnership for riders to build confidence and continue to grow. Many of our riders have continued their love for riding because of Rufus.
