Mark your calendar for Zone 1 Educational Forums!
Don't miss the opportunity to attend a USHJA Zone 1 Educational Forum this year. The forums are free, cover a variety of topics and include refreshments. Mark your calendar:

  • July 16, Vermont Summer Festival Week III, East Dorset, Vt.,"Walk the course to win it"
  • July 27, Head of the Bay Classic I, Buzzards Bay, Mass., "The winning round"
  • Aug. 20, Silver Oak Jumper Tournament, Halifax, Mass., "Walk the course to win it"
  • Sept. 26, MHC Equitation Finals, Northampton, Mass., "The winning round"
Applications deadline extended for USHJA Zones 1 & 2 Platinum Jumper Championships
The USHJA Platinum Jumper Championships application deadline for Zones 1 and 2 has been extended to June 4.

The championships will be June 5-9 at HITS-on-the-Hudson III in Saugerties, New York.

To be eligible to qualify, horse and rider combinations need to have earned a minimum of $250 at the 1.40/1.45m height and to have not competed in an Open High Performance Standard Grand Prix in the current competition year.

Congratulations to our members who competed at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Finals April 26-28 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The following members earned USHJA Individual Championship titles:
  • Riley Babb, TerryAllen Farms, USHJA Varsity Open on the Flat Individual Champion and Leading Hunt Seat Rider
  • Raeghan Brousseau, Heartland, Junior Varsity Beginner on the Flat Champion
  • Molly Zygmont, Avon Valley-Cedar Brook, Future Intermediate Over Fences Champion

Sport History: Fun facts from the USHJA Wheeler Museum!
Before going on to national grand prix and 1984 Olympic Team Gold fame, Melanie Smith (Taylor) won 1970 Horse of the Year honors in the Amateur Owner Jumper Division with The Irishman.

Here they are at Melanie’s hometown Germantown Horse Show clearing a jump typical of the 1960s and 1970s: A long and wide slanted panel that served as the “Joker” bonus jump in a Gambler’s Choice class.

Karen Healey Clinic coming up
Karen Healey will be teaching a clinic July 16-17 at Rising Star Equestrian Center in Medway, Massachusetts. Open to beginner through advanced riders, ages 8 and up, the clinic will focus on hunter/jumper and equitation.
