Congratulations to our HQC Stable Challenge Winner!
The USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Stable Challenge wrapped up July 15.

To participate, at least three junior and/or amateur students per trainer had to take the online Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Practice Quiz between June 15 and July 15.. At the end of the 30-day challenge, the three top scores under each trainer were averaged to provide an overall score and the highest scoring trainer per zone is the winner.

Congratulations to Zone 10's winner Julie Conner-Daniels and Eclipse Farm!

The highest scoring trainer in each USHJA zone wins a unique trainer-inspired award package designed to benefit the entire barn, which includes a gift card from Nutrena, a Shapley's gift set, a one-year USHJA membership, a free 2022 Recognized Riding Academy membership and additional awards from USHJA sponsors. The highest scoring trainer overall will also receive an Essex Classics shirt.

USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Spotlight: Hansen Dam Riding School
We heard from Gioia Lamendola with Hansen Dam Riding School, a USHJA Recognized Riding Academy in Sunland, California.

Tell us about your program and who you serve.
Hansen Dam Riding School offers its students a safe and fun riding program consisting of five Levels of Horsemanship. Riders will progress through the level based on their personal goals, how often they ride, and a desire to advance. HDRS recognizes riders for their progression and rewards their achievements, through our five levels, with Riding and Horsemanship badges.

What made you want to become a Recognized Riding Academy?
We love all that USHJA has to offer and are dedicated to teaching passionate equestrians of all ages and levels.

Tell us about your star lesson horse and why he/she is the best lesson horse around.
We have 15 Lesson horses at HDRS. They are all so special in their own way. Bradley is one of our favorites. He is a 7 year old TB gelding who teaches walk-trot and also our most advanced lessons. He has been with HDRS since he came off the track at four years old. He has a puppy dog personality and we love spoiling him!

Pacific Coast Horse Shows Association

Founded in 1946, the Pacific Coast Horse Shows Association (PCHA) aims to promote and develop the quality of horse shows on the West Coast.

New for this year, the PCHA has expanded its Child/Adult Jumper Championships, to include both Low Child/Adult riders at 1.0m and Junior/Amateur riders at 1.20m. West Palms is sponsoring the $55,000 of prize money up for grabs at Riders Cup (Oct. 21-24, 2021) at Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC).

“It’s something new, different, and really great,” said Archie Cox, PCHA President. “I am very excited that West Palms is hosting the PCHA Jumper Championships. We are getting a lot of interest and I have no doubt that West Palms Events will do a first-class job with it.”

PCHA is also recognizing the $10,000 PCHA Child/Adult Hunter Championships at LA National (Oct. 13-17) at LAEC. “The Child/Adult Hunter Championships are a great opportunity for hunter riders, and we are looking forward to excellent competition,” commented Mike Edrick, PCHA Co-Vice-President.
PCHA offers six medal classes with finals throughout California. “We are bringing our PCHA Horsemanship Finals to the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show (Sept. 10-12),” Archie said. “Our Jr/Am 2’9’’ Horsemanship Final North will be at Let’s Show Halloween (Oct. 27-31) and the PCHA Jr/Am 2’9’’ Horsemanship Final South will be at the National Sunshine Series I (Nov. 3-7). The Foxfield Medal Final will take place at the Blenheim Fall Tournament (Sept. 15-19) and the Onondarka Medal Final will be at LA National (Oct. 13-17) at LAEC.”

In addition to medal finals, PCHA also offers a variety of special awards. “We host an annual awards banquet and it’s always a great event,” Mike noted. “Riders work so hard through the whole year to accumulate year-end points. We award riders with beautiful bronze trophies and ribbons, and we also give out some special awards. For instance, we have the Rachel Joseph Memorial Perpetual Trophy, which is an award given to an outstanding and hardworking parent.”

PCHA is proud to be a USHJA Affiliate Organization. “I think all that USHJA offers is great for our members,” Mike added. “Being part of USHJA helps our members to be informed and educated. We are passionate about growing the base of the sport and glad to be affiliated with USHJA.”
