March Zone 10 Update
With the arrival of spring comes the excitement of the FEI World Cup Finals as new and veteran riders make their final preparations to represent the United States. We congratulate Richard Spooner, Eve Jobs, Nayel Nassar and Kelli Cruciotti on their top finishes in the North American West Coast League. It takes hard work, dedication and horsemanship to have consistent success at the top levels of the sport, and we hope all of our Zone 10 members are inspired by our top riders. Don’t forget to take advantage of the many programs USHJA offers to help you on your riding journey, whether you are a junior, amateur or professional rider!

AON/USHJA National Championships Are Set to Return to Las Vegas
After an exceptional inaugural year, the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association is pleased that the AON/USHJA National Championships are set to return to The Las Vegas National, CSI4*-W, November 12-17, 2019, pending approval by US Equestrian. With competition offered from 2-foot Hunters to 1.40m Jumpers, horse-and-rider combinations qualify through their Affiliate or Zones, making this unique Championship a destination for competitors nationwide.
Zone 10 Member Highlight: Brett Bodrato
Brett Bodrato rode his own Gallopoli to great success in the Hunter ring in 2018, and he hopes to build on that this year.

"Gallopoli is a rock star, and I’m blessed just to pilot such a wonderful horse. I’m so thankful to my trainer David Josiah for pairing us two old guys together! We work well together, and I was proud to earn High Scoring Amateur Rider in my first USHJA Hunter Derby and to qualify for the AON/USHJA National Championships in their inaugural year,” Brett shared. “I had so much fun at the AON/USHJA National Championships! They really hit it out of the park. The entire event was ‘top drawer’ and brought back memories of showing at the ‘Garden’ years ago. The rings and jumpers were dressed to the tens. Las Vegas really knows how to horse show!”

The championships have inspired Brett to continue to seek out excellent horse shows in 2019.

“It takes a lot of time and effort from our animals to perform as we ask of them, and they deserve beautiful rings to compete in, ribbon and trophy presentations, and applause for their accomplishments. This year I’m looking forward to competing in horse shows that put the ‘show’ back in horse showing!”

Beezie Madden tops AIG $1 Million Grand Prix
It was quite a duel in the desert with over 50 horse and rider combinations vying for the blue ribbon in the 2019 AIG $1 Million Grand Prix, the finale to the popular HITS Coachella Desert Circuit. The competition was fierce with top riders traveling to Thermal for a chance at the significant prize money. This year, spectators were in for a treat as reigning World Cup Final champion Beezie Madden proved once again why she’s one of the best riders in the world aboard Darry Lou (Abigail Wexner, owner). With this win, Beezie has now won three HITS $1 Million Grands Prix in just 4 years, with previous wins in the 2015 Canadian Pacific $1 Million Grand Prix in New York and the 2018 Great American $1 Million Grand Prix in Florida. She also completed the season as the number one rider in the Longines Jumping FEI World Cup North American East Coast League and is expected to compete in the FEI World Cup Finals in April.

Beezie was one of six clear over this year’s course, designed by Bernardo Cabral. As second to go in the jump off, she laid down a blistering time that no one could beat. Last year’s winners, Nayel Nassar and his longtime partner Lordan, proved their consistency and came in second. Ali Ramsay and her Vermelien VD Hooghoeve came in third and had a fantastic circuit as well, winning the $70,000 EQ International Real Estate Grand Prix and coming second in the $70,000 Osphos Grand Prix earlier in the week.

Congratulations to all of the riders in the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix!
