August Zone 4 Update
Thank you for being a Zone 4 member! August was packed with championships and events, and we want to congratulate our members for their accomplishments this month. Don't forget to get your entries in for the AON/USHJA National Championships!

Zone 4 horses shine at the Platinum Performance/USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship
Congratulations to our members who participated in the Platinum Performance/USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., August 16-18! Special congratulations to Brad Wolf's Private Practice, ridden by Victoria Colvin, the 2018 Champion!

The following horses, owned by members in our zone, placed in the top 12 in Championship:

  • Private Practice, owned by Brad Wolf, ridden by Victoria Colvin, 1st place Section A
  • Clemens, owned by Finally Farm and Westerly Farm, ridden by Elizabeth Boyd, 2nd place Section A
  • Tybee, owned by Helen Brown, ridden by Holly Shepherd, 4th place Section A
  • Exclusive, owned by Isalou Inc., ridden by Jimmy Torano, 7th place Section A, 2nd place Section B
  • Vanderpump, owned by Ashland Farms, ridden by Augusta Iwasaki, 7th place Section B

Athletes attend EAP Session at The Colorado Horse Park
Congratulations to Zone 4's Sara McDermott and Cory McLaughlin, who participated in the Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund/USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Session at The Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado, with clinicians Julie Winkel and Nanci Snyder.

Congratulations to all of our Zone 4 horses, owners and riders who participated in the 2018 Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships Aug. 14-16 at The Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.

The Zone 4 Horse of the Year championships are coming up, don't miss out on the chance to participate in these events.

Zone 4 Horse of the Year Championship South

Qualifying Criteria: HOTY Championship classes are open to all competitors who meet the minimum eligibility requirements outlined  here.

Zone 4 riders compete at FEI North American Youth Championships in New York!
Congratulations to our Mia Albelo, Marion Head, Jorja Rose Jones, Tanner Korotkin, Addison Piper and Elli Yeager, who competed in the FEI North American Youth Show Jumping Championships presented by USHJA Aug. 1-5 at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, New York! 

Mia Albelo was part of the combined Zones 3,4,5 & 7 Children's Team that earned the silver medal! Elli Yeager earned silver in the Junior Individual Championship. Special thanks to Chef d'Equipe Kim Land for leading riders at the Championships.

And the Zone 4 Stable Challenge Winner is...
Congratulations to Amy Center and her team from Cavallo Farms, winners of the 2018 HQC Stable Challenge, presented by The Plaid Horse!

The highest scoring trainer from each zone receives an award package for their barn including a helmet from Charles Owen, a one-year membership to Equestriancoach.com, a $200 Parlanti gift certificate, a pair of Pro Performance horse boots from Professional's Choice, a gift from Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, a grooming bucket with supplies from Shapley's, gifts from The Plaid Horse, a gift from Stable Secretary and a USHJA branded backpack, brush, hoof pick, tumbler and TCP manual.

Congratulations to riders who competed at USEF Pony Finals!
Congratulations to all of our members who participated in USEF Pony Finals, presented by Collecting Gaits Farm, Aug. 7-12 at The Kentucky Horse Park.

Elizabeth Cram, Hallie Rush, Trinity Beitler and Madison Kondracki were part of the USHJA Zone 4 silver medal team in the USEF Pony Jumper National Championships! Special thanks to Chef d'Equipe Katie Brown-Maxwell for leading riders.

Member Milestone: Ziggy Hoffman attends Pony Finals
Last summer, Ziggy Hoffman, of Chatt Hills, Georgia, attended his first US Pony Finals when he came to watch his sister participate in the lead line and walk trot class. The fun and excitement stuck with him, and according to his mother, Megan, he made Pony Finals a goal that very next year working his way up in classes until his pony Ledinjadin Graffiti was qualified.

"Pony Finals was fun," Ziggy said. "I rode a lot. I watched lots of kids and ponies compete. The course was challenging because it was so large."

Ziggy was proud of himself for competing at the event, and said the best part was getting a new pony!

"Zig has struggled with dyslexia his whole life. He found his happy on a pony and is at that barn all day every day," Megan Hoffman said. "He has had sights on Washington now. Then the Olympics. Watch out world."
