USHJA Outreach Member Highlight
Patty Glick, of Sunriver, Oregon, was Champion in the 2020 USHJA Outreach Hunters 2'.

What did you enjoy about participating in the Outreach program in 2020?
Competing my young pony, Picturesque Rainberry, in Outreach shows last year was a blessing, especially given all of the Covid-related cancellations and restrictions at the rated shows. The Outreach shows provide a great opportunity to teach green horses and compete in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

How did you get involved in the sport?
I have always loved horses – they are truly special animals, and I feel blessed to have been able to ride and enjoy them for most of my life (I’m in my mid-50s now).

What are your riding goals for this year?
Even though I plan to do several rated shows with my pony this year, I will also continue to participate in the Outreach program. Thank you to USHJA for supporting it!

Consider Hosting or Participating in a USHJA Mini EAP
The USHJA invites trainers, riding facilities, clubs, or other associations to host a Mini EAP clinic for your students.

Mini EAP provides an introduction to the Emerging Athletes Program's goal of “opening eyes and opening doors” for developing riders, ensuring that all levels of equestrian athletes have access to a strong educational foundation both in the saddle and in the barn.
USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Spotlight: Burkwood
We heard from Paige Wagter with Burkwood, a Recognized Riding Academy in Blaine, Washington.

Tell us a little about your program and who you serve.
We are in Washington on the Canada border. We compete at rated and Outreach-level shows. We offer lessons to anyone 4 and over.

What made you want to become a Recognized Riding Academy?
We believe in having standards, like being an RRA, is important for our riders, horses and the future of our sport.

Briefly tell us about your star lesson horse and why he/she is the best lesson horse around.
That is so hard! We have so many wonderful lesson horses and ponies. They take such good care of our riders. They truly are all our stars!
