Strive for excellence with the World Championship Hunter Rider Program

World Championship Hunter Rider member events are underway!  The next WCHR event in Zone 9 is June 20-24 at Early Summer Classic in Wilsonville, Ore. Click here for the full calendar.   There's still time to join and earn points toward year-end awards for Professionals, Developing Professionals, Amateur Owners, Adult Amateurs, Juniors, Children's and Pony riders. Congratulation to Elissa Ostroff! The first Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund/USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Session will be May 31-June 4 and we congratulate Elissa Ostroff, 21, of Portland, Ore., who has been accepted to participate in the session! Elissa will learn from clinicians Jim Wofford and Nanci Snyder. Stay tuned to see what other Zone 9 members will be attending sessions this year! USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championship Northwest Happening in Zone 9!

The opportunity to participate in one of the Green Hunter Incentive Regional Championships is coming up July 25-29 at Oregon High Desert Classic 2 in Bend, Oregon! Each regional championship is two rounds and the combined total score for both rounds will determine the winner! Don't forget horses must be enrolled in the program to participate! Want to become a USHJA Certified Trainer? Earn TCP credit at the upcoming Julie Winkel Clinic June 9-10 at Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum, Wash. The Zone 9 Committee will provide a $125 reimbursement to the first 10 who apply to earn TCP credit at the clinic. Click here for more information about the program.

Congratulations IHSA Nationals riders! Congratulations to riders and teams from our zone who competed at the IHSA National Championships May 3-6 at Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg! HQC Quick Quiz answer: The answer to last month's Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Quick Quiz was " camped out ," because it is not a flaw that can be found on a horse's front legs. Eighty-two percent of our members who answered the question got it correct, which was tied for the highest zone!   Camped out is when the hind legs are set behind the plumb line that runs from the point of the buttock through the point of the hock, down the back of the cannon bone and to the back of the heel bulbs. The other choices, pigeon toed and club footed, were flaws that can be found on a horse's front legs.   Learn more by studying the study guide and when you're ready, register to participate in the 2018 Horsemanship Quiz Challenge, presented by The Plaid Horse !

Congratulations to members and teams from our zone who participated in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Finals April 20-22 at New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse!
