Shakeology of the Month
CHOCOLATE PUMPKIN PIE SHAKEOLOGY
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a vitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

HEALTHY LIVING RECIPE
by Kelly Lake
Roasted Butternut Squash and
Fresh Herb Flatbread
It's okay to splurge a little but a flatbread loaded with fresh herbs and roasted vegetables isn't too bad. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:
-1 tsp. olive oil
-1 medium butternut squash (about 2 lb), peeled, seeded, and diced
-Cornmeal, for sprinkling
-1 whole wheat Naan bread
-1 (8- oz.) ball mozzarella, sliced
-¼ cup Parmesan, finely grated
-¾ cup of fresh herbs (sage, basil)
-2 tsp. aged balsamic vinegar, for serving (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly coat a roasting pan or heavy baking sheet with oil, then scatter with butternut squash. Cover with foil. Roast 25 minutes, tossing ingredients around once or twice so they cook evenly on all sides. Remove from oven and increase temperature to the highest setting, usually 500°F.
Sprinkle a large (12-by-17-inch) baking sheet lightly with cornmeal. Place Naan bread on baking sheet. Scatter with mozzarella and Parmesan. Place roasted vegetable over bread. Bake until cheese is slightly browned, about 15 minutes. Top with fresh herbs and drizzle with balsamic vinegar, if desired.

November 2018
We are growing, learning...for YOU!

The  story of Bay Athletic Club is about YOU --our  members and community supporters.

The success of Bay Athletic Club is about YOU --
our inspiration stories and transformations.

Our entire club is dedicated to creating a happier and healthier community. Therefore, I usually feature you, the people we serve.

But this month, I want to congratulate BAC team members for investing in their continuing education and expertise to make our club stronger.

Lara Torres, Courtney Holmes, Kelly Lake and Amanda Freeland traveled to Chicago for Midwest Mania Fitness Convention for three days of non-stop workouts and lectures covering a range of topics in the industry from delivering a world-class warm up to the importance of recovery to nutrition to Tabata Yoga to HIIT workouts.

I also presented a session on personal growth and living a positive life. They represented BAC so well and I was proud to have them there.

These women recently led a workshop with our fitness team at BAC to share what they learned in Chicago. Many teammates attended, including Tracie Granata, Ami Lenning, Bernie Idalski, Cheryl Mack, Eric Koss, Amanda Cordes, Rexann McConnell, Sarah Morrison, Chris Morrison, Andrew Libka, Rick Houchin and Meag Schwartz. You'll experience their fresh ideas in classes and up at BAC, I'm sure.

Chrissy Carriveau and Amanda Freeland also attended a day-long Leadership event at NOAA, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. BAC teammate Jerome Torres is off to Wisconsin next week to get his TRX certification. We have so many great things happening on the team.

I spent a few days last week in the mountains of Utah with other health club owners from around the country in a business retreat, hosted by my friend and mentor Todd Durkin. He has always taught me the importance of getting out of the club in order to work on the club. It was extraordinary. I garnered a lot of ideas for our club from my peers in the industry and had some "blue sky time" to dream and brainstorm. I came home filled up and re-energized. I hope you feel our passion when you walk through the doors.  This is not our job, this is our calling.

Our world-class team just got better... for YOU!

TIPS FROM NUTRITION EDUCATOR AMANDA FREELAND

NUTRITION TIP:
Stop limiting your food groups.   Our bodies were meant to eat a variety of fresh, colorful and flavorful foods. When we deny ourselves a certain food group our brain is triggered to see that food as 'bad' so when we eat it, we tend to overindulge or we end up feeling guilty. Food should not make us feel guilty. Food should make us feel energized, fueled for our day and balanced.

Many people feel that certain food groups such as carbohydrates, sugars, dairy or meats are the root cause of health problems and they avoid them. The truth is, our body craves a variety of foods to get the various nutrients we need to sustain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Certain foods, such as sugars and refined or sugary carbohydrates, should be eaten in moderation of course, but in general we shouldn't need to limit or cut out any specific food group to live a healthy life. Restriction and dieting doesn't work long term. Variety, moderation and being mindful will help you successfully lose weight and keep it off.

FOOD SWAP:
Love pasta? No problem! There are SO many great options on the market today for a healthier pasta option. Instead of a white pasta, try a black bean pasta (see picture), edamame pasta or red lentil pasta! You'll barely notice a difference in taste but you will add a ton of nutrients and extra protein to your day! You can find these healthier options in the pasta aisle.

SUCCESS STORY:
Chris Spencer loves fitness. He works out consistently every single day. However, he was struggling to lose weight like he wanted to. He had actually started gaining weight. Chris chose to purchase a three pack of personal training nutrition sessions. He met with Nutrition Educator Amanda Freeland three times over the past six weeks and Chris is down 9lbs! He is excited to continue his weight loss journey, and has decided to keep learning about his nutrition with an additional three pack to finish his year strong.

TAKE ACTION OVER YOUR NUTRITION:
We offer two great nutrition services at Bay Athletic Club.
1) A three pack of personal coaching nutrition sessions
2) Turning Point: A six week comprehensive nutrition program to develop better habits and a better relationship with food
