A Note from the Planning Department
|
In the month of March the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment will each hold their regularly scheduled monthly meetings within Council Chambers located within Town Hall at 30 South Main Street. The members of these Boards, who each are residents of the town, assist Town Council and staff with various land use regulation considerations and dedicate a tremendous effort on a voluntary basis.
Agendas and packets of information related to matters before the Boards can be found at the following link on the town’s website once the packets have been consolidated by staff and distributed to the Boards and applicants the week prior to the meeting.
Planning Board:
On Tuesday, March 1 the Planning Board will consider regulations related to solar collector systems. Over the previous years, a large number of zoning permits for the installation of solar panels have been issued, a vast majority of which have been both residential in nature and roof mounted to the primary structure on the property. These proposed solar collector regulations aim to continue to permit by right roof mounted solar panels while providing staff additional guidance on ground mounted solar systems as both an accessory and primary use of a property. The consideration of solar collector regulations is called for in the town’s comprehensive land use plan which was last updated in August 2021.
Board of Adjustment:
On Monday, March 14 the Board of Adjustment will consider an application for a variance from the front yard setbacks established by the R-2 zoning district for an unaddressed parcel on Carden Drive. Section 20-3108 of municipal ordinance tasks the Board of Adjustment to consider requests for variances when unnecessary hardship would result from carrying out the strict letter of a zoning regulation. Additionally, the Board of adjustment shall vary any of the provisions of the zoning regulations when, based on competent, material, and substantial evidence, it finds the standards applicable to a variance are met.

This Month's Message from the
Weaverville Center for Creative & Healthy Living
|
|
Dear Friends of the WCCHL,
The 2nd Quarter planning effort is in full swing, so we would like to hear from you about the types of programs you might want to see added to our schedule. Whether exercise, health lectures, entertainment, wellness initiatives, or walking groups, we want to hear from you. Parents - are there programs that you would like us to address such as exploring the physiology of school aged children, the psychology of adolescence, preparing to send your child away to college, signs of substance abuse, or perhaps reading and math camps during the summer break? Anyone interested in attending classes on how to address your Type II Diabetes with education, diet, and exercise? We are looking for someone to Champion a walking challenge program. Let us know what’s on your mind. Here are March’s highlights.
March 4th / Friday / 6:30-8:00 PM: The Weaverville Storyteller’s Troupe will present another concert on the topic of “Courage.” Our storytellers will be Larry Pearlman, Wallace Shealy, Charlie St. Clair, Chuck Fink, and making his special debut, Wallace Bohannon. Please join us for another incredible concert as these local storytellers engage us with their personal journeys and fascinating tales of Courage. Come early as the last concert was nearly standing room only. Suitable for all ages.
March 6th / Sunday / 2:30-4:30 PM: “Red” A two actor , Tony Award winning theatrical production that tells the story of Mark Rothko while in his New York studio during 1958/59. Having been commissioned to paint a group of murals for the expensive and exclusive Four Seasons restaurant, Rothko gives orders to his assistant, Ken, as Ken mixes the paints, makes the frames, and primes the canvases. Ken, however, eventually brashly questions Rothko's theories of art and his acceding to work on such a commercial project. A story of modern art, friendship, and deep introspection. Audience advisory: Coarse Language.
March 8th & 22nd / Tuesdays / 6:00-7:30 PM: Winter Mountain Music Jam: These acoustic instrument jam sessions/concerts are open to all. Come play with your fellow musicians or just sit, toe tap, and sing along. Suitable for all ages.
March 29th / Tuesday / 6:30-8:00 PM: Trivia & Family Game Night. We had so much fun at the Fall event, there has been a clambering for another evening of mutigenerational family fun. Format: Teams will be formed to play Trivia for the first 30 minutes followed by board games shared by all. Bring a favorite board game and perhaps some cookies too! Suitable for all ages.
March 21st / Monday / 12:30-2:30 PM: People with Physical Challenges Group: If you or someone you care about faces physical challenges due to health related issues, this group has been set up to provide information, support, and a safe place to share your thoughts. This group is also suitable for individuals who are the primary caregiver for people with physical challenges. Our group champions are Dr. Tom Belt and Donna Mann, LCSW both of whom have many years of experience in the field of medicine and assisting people navigate the healthcare system. Please spread the word to anyone who you think might benefit from these informative meetings. Suitable for all ages.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of our Board of Directors,
Tom
Thomas M. Balestrieri, Board Chairperson / 904.347.3312
