The Longest Day

Those who know me know that I like to do hard things. In the absence of any genuine talent or natural ability when it comes to dirt biking, I have been blessed (or some might say cursed) with an indomitable will, which combined with my competitive nature, creates a powerful drive. Add to that my capacity to tolerate discomfort and you end up with someone who has found her calling riding endurance events.
I came to the sport late and didn’t start riding until I was in my early 40s. I enjoy racing, especially enduros, and as a late bloomer and now in my early 50s, I recognize my limitations and know that I’ll never be the fastest rider out there, especially against a field of younger women who are half my age and have been racing for twice as long, and I’m OK with that. Over the last few years though, my interests have gravitated towards longer and harder enduros, 6 hour XCs, and even a few 24 hour races. I’m not a huge fan of laps and much prefer point-to-point events where the terrain is challenging and ever-changing, so when I heard about this crazy 24 hour event called the Dacre Rally (a play on the original Dakar Rally) put on by Rally Connex near Dacre, Ontario, I knew I had to add it to my bucket list.
