IMPORTANT UPDATE: WE ARE GOING VIRTUAL!!!
Virtual Handbags for Housing
Thursday, September 16th | 6:30 PM (PST)

We so wanted to shake our tail feathers with you in person this year, but to prioritize
the public health of our community, although heartbreaking, we have decided that it
is best not to flamingle this year!

Handbags for Housing 2021 will move to a virtual experience only to best ensure the health and safety of our staff, guests, volunteers, and the greater community.
Don’t worry; we still plan to have some fun, including a VIP drive-thru pick-up party and virtual fashion show featuring 10 local boutiques and stores.

Besides, online shopping is FUN!

If you've already registered for this year's event, please check your inbox and spam folders for a message sent from us earlier today from events@lydiaplace.org. In there, you will find a more in-depth overview of how the event will be moved from an in-person event to a virtual one, as well as instructions to initiate a refund of your ticket purchase if you wish.

We encourage you to help spread the word and invite your flock to participate in the event, and help ensure that we can still meet our $125,000 goal.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to all our partners and sponsors for
continuing their crucial support!

TRAILS TO TAPS RELAY
October 17, 2021
Registration begins September 1, 2021

Trails to Taps is a 5-10 person team relay through downtown Bellingham and beyond. The 30+ mile course explores trails, roads, and parks via 10 running legs ranging from 1.6 – 5 miles. Each transition takes place at a different brewery or cidery. Costumes are encouraged and rewarded with a costume contest at the After Party! The winning team gets a variety of merchandise. In addition, each participant gets a pint glass and a fill by one of the participating breweries/cideries.  As in years, past Lydia Place is the beneficiary of the proceeds from this relay, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

BUSINESS PARTNER GRATITUDE
RICE Insurance is Investing in Whatcom County!
As a longstanding supporter of Lydia Place, Rice Insurance, LLC has continued to search for impactful ways to advocate for the needs of our agency and our most vulnerable neighbors. This year, they've invested in connecting their staff with
our agency and agencies like ours, with an employee initiative and match program.
Month after month, we see this partnership growing, their staff selflessly offering a
a portion of their personal paychecks to support housing stability in our community and
Rice Insurance stepping up to match those contributions.

We want to let all the staff at Rice Insurance know just how grateful we are!

To learn more about Rice Insurance and its commitment to serving the needs of its clients and our community, visit their website: www.riceinsurance.com.

Curious how you can join these amazing people and becoming a monthly donor?

It’s as simple as that, sign-up today!
Look at the Garden Grow!
This spring, volunteers from Christ the King (CTK) donated supplies and helped our Bell Tower Campus residents plant their gardens.

It is so amazing how a bit of sunshine, water, and much love can grow into something so beautiful.

COMMUNITY CHAMPION GRATITUDE
Earlier this month, our friends at VECA Electric & Technologies hosted
a golf tournament to benefit Lydia Place and...
We just found out that they raised $21,000 on our behalf!

VECA believes that their employees are their greatest asset, and we have to agree! So, to the VECA Team, we really can’t thank you enough!

Veterans Electrical Contractors Association (VECA) was started in 1946 by two World War II veterans right here in the Northwest. They design, install, and service commercial electrical, industrial, communications, and wireless systems in new and existing buildings. To learn more, visit their website: www.veca.com.
Lydia Place goes to the Fair!
We all look forward to August when the Lynden Fairgrounds come alive with rides, funnel cakes, and farm animals!!!

Our friends at the Northwest Fair Foundation wanted to make sure that the families of Lydia Place could join in on the fun by donating 50 tickets to us.

Thank you for being a Community Champion and ensuring access to fair for not only fun but to learn about our rich agricultural heritage here in Whatcom County!!!!
Jumping for Joy!
You could feel the excitement in the air when Summit Adventure Park donated 40 one-hour passes to the children of Lydia Place earlier this month.

What a great way to burn off some of that extra energy and spend quality time with friends and family now that kiddos are heading back to the classroom.

Thank you, Summit Adventure Park, for jumping at the chance to provide fun for our families. You are Community Champions!!!

Fred Meyer is helping kids get
Back to School!
Each year Lydia Place hosts a back-to-school event for our families, and while a bit smaller this year, our partners at Fred Meyer helped in a BIG way!

We received a donation of snacks, backpacks, and lunchboxes for the event and want to say THANK YOU for helping us make this a memorable event. You truly are Community Champions!!!

Comfort Bears from KGMI!
We want to give a huge Bear Hug to the KGMI team for providing Lydia Place with 300 "comfort bears."

These snuggly bears will be making their way to children during the upcoming Holiday Season and undoubtedly bring smiles to many faces!

Thank you, KGMI, for being a Community Champion!!!
Thank You,
Bellingham ELKS!
We so appreciate your your recent donation of $3000 to benefit our Direct Service Programs.

These dollars make a huge difference in our ability to support the individual needs of our families.
VOLUNTEER

Thank You, VolunTeens!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Whatcom County VolunTeens and their mentors, for helping us get a head start on our Handbags for Housing event prep!

This wonderful group of teens wrapped, ribboned, cleaned, and organized dozens of items and event decor.

Thank you VolunTeens, we appreciate you!

VolunTeens is a summer program of the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department and engages teens in getting outside, getting dirty, getting active, and giving back.

DONATE NEW & GENTLY USED ITEMS
We just wanted to take a moment to celebrate our Donation Partner, Wee Ones Reruns . We have only been working with them for a short while but we have raised close $600 to support Lydia Place families. When you donate on behalf of Lydia Place, your new or gently loved items become vouchers for families to go and shop for items that are needed when they are needed.

Fall is a great time to clean out those closets to prepare for new styles, and right now Wee Ones Reruns is putting out a call for Back-to School Clothing. So whether you need to donate, shop, or both, swing by one of Bellingham’s largest consignment shops to check out their great deals.
Earlier this month we formed a new donation partnership with Opportunity Council's Employment Services - Job Seeker Closet.

Looking to fill a need to provide FREE work-specific clothing for men, plus-sized women, and employment sector-specific clothing they are asking for donations of men's interview clothing, plus-sized women's professional clothing, bras (new & gently used), scrubs in all sizes, and construction industry clothing like boots, tools, and Carhartt-like pants and jackets.

To donate contact Yarrow Greer at yarrow_greer@oppco.org or call (360) 734-5121 ext 1223 and don't forget to mention Lydia Place at the time of donation.
Looking to donate your new or gently used items to Lydia Place?

Read about which items we are currently accepting and where to drop them off on our website at www.lydiaplace.org/support or by downloading our handy donation guide below.

Ongoing donation needs are also listed on Amazon!

At Lydia Place, we value our community and that means we shop local whenever possible. Due to our inability to accept most donations in person, we've had to find alternative ways to continue to provide essential items to our families in need. One of the ways we're doing that is through Amazon Wish Lists in order to limit person-to-person contact as much as possible.

These lists can also be used as a reference if you wish to shop locally. We just ask that if you aren't purchasing items from Amazon that they are mailed directly to Lydia Place. If you'd like to discuss ongoing donation needs or delivery please contact us at info@lydiaplace.org.

Don't forget you can support Lydia Place with each purchase you make on Amazon!
AmazonSmile in the Shopping App

You can now support your favorite charity through the Amazon app on your iPhone and Android Phones. By turning on the AmazonSmile feature, Amazon will donate 0.5% of all eligible purchases to Lydia Place every time you shop- no additional cost to you.

As of November 2020, AmazonSmile shoppers have generated $1,137.24 for Lydia Place programs and services!

How the CARES Act Impacts Charitable Giving for 2021

New Deduction Available: Non-itemizer taxpayers can write off up to $300 per tax return (up to $600 for married couples filing jointly) in charitable cash contributions for 2021. This is available only to people who take the standard deduction, not for people who can itemize their deductions on Schedule A. It is an “above the line” deduction from income that will reduce a donor’s adjusted gross income (AGI), and thereby reduce taxable income.

This information is not intended as legal or tax advice. For such advice, please consult an attorney or tax advisor. References to tax rates include federal taxes only and are subject to change. State law may further impact your individual results.
