August 4: First Friday
Only a few offerings this month as many of our small business owners take time for a well-deserved summer vacation. This evening will feature orchids, puzzles, BBQ & beer. See you in the 'Ville!

An event with Lagunitas Brewery. That's right...Lagunitas Brewery! Hobbs will offer BBQ burgers, hot dogs, as well as sides. Vegetarian options will also be available. And of course, beer!

Houseplant Hospital
7 B. South Chester Road, 7 pm
Houseplant Hospital will present a FREE orchid workshop and demonstration. Bring in a busted old orchid plant and discuss how to get it back to blooming again!

Kandys Kids Toys and Gifts
5 South Chester Road, 3-7 pm
A FREE art activity: Color a Ravensburger Puzzle to create your own colorful underwater scene to take home. Puzzle is for ages 4 and up. 

All Summer Long: Thursday Night Live!

We're halfway through Thursday Night Live, a summer concert series in Swarthmore's Central Park outdoor amphitheater. This free event, running every other Thursday evening until late September, includes live performances by local musicians. Concert attendees can pack a picnic dinner or grab take-out from one of many restaurants in town. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy a great night of live music under the stars! case of rain, the show will go on at waR3house3.

World's Greatest Paintings
Video Lecture Series
Join us for an 8-week presentation of the 
World's Greatest Paintings from the  Great Courses video lecture series. Beginning August 10, Thursdays from 10 am - 12 pm we delve into works of art that allow us to comprehend more deeply the world and our place within it. Come for all 8 pieces or just choose your favorite artist's portion! This program is made possible by a grant for Aging in Place Services from Swarthmore Borough. Refreshments will be provided.

August 10: Giotto, Duccio, and Van Eyck
August 17: Botticelli, Bellini, Durer, Da Vinci, and Raphael
August 24: Michelangelo, Grunewald, Titian, El Greco, Bruegel, and Carravagio

Book Reading & Discussion with Zinzi Clemmons
Thursday, August 17 at 7 pm in the Gathering Place at the Inn at  Swarthmore, the Swarthmore Campus and Community Store, along with the  Swarthmore Public Library, will host award-winning author and former  Swarthmore resident, Zinzi Clemmons, for a reading and discussion of her  new book,  What We Lose .

Saturdays in the Park: It's the Swarthmore Farmers Market!

Awarded "Best in Class" in 2016, the #1 Farmers Market in Pennsylvania occurs every Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm in Swarthmore's Central Park. In addition to beautifully-raised fresh produce, meats, and dairy from area farms, the market offers an array of locally-made specialty food items. The market is also your destination for live music, hand-crafted art, children's activities, and health and wellness activities for the whole family. Swarthmore CO-OP Food Truck-a-Thon
Swarthmore Town Center on September 15, 5-9 pm
A variety of food trucks and vendors will be on hand for patrons to enjoy amazing food and drinks. 

Fine Arts and Crafts Festival
Park & Dartmouth Avenues on September 23, 10 am - 5 pm

FREE Small Business Seminar

The Widener University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides one-on-one consulting services and a series of educational programs and seminars to new and existing businesses in southeastern Pennsylvania.

On August 29 from 9-11 am, the SBDC will offer a First Steps seminar to guide  entrepreneurs as they start on the path to successful  business ownership. Participants will discuss entrepreneurship and what it takes to start a successful business.
