Welcome to the April 2019 Cornershot Newsletter! This issue will cover recent and upcoming BC tournaments, athlete profiles, league results, and news at Field Hockey Canada.
Vancouver International Tournament
The Vancouver International Tournament (VIT) is almost here! The tournament will take place May 18-20, 2019 at the Burnaby Lake West Sports Complex.

The tournament will include five divisions across three turf fields, one legendary beer garden and the opportunity to experience walking hockey for the first time! Don't forget to submit your team roster by the May 3rd deadline.

Congratulations to all VFHL Playoff Champions!
The Vancouver Field Hockey League finals took place at Eric Hamber Field on April 6, 2019. There was great action across all three men's divisions, including a shootout thriller in the Men's Premier League. Congratulations to the Playoff Champions:

  • Premier: India Club (5-4 Shootout W vs West Coast Kings)
  • Comp 1: Surinder Lions (4-0 W vs West Vancouver FHC)
  • Comp 2: West Coast Kings (5-1 W vs Dashmesh)

Join Us at the FHBC Train 2 Train Regional Festival!
The FHBC Train 2 Train Regional Festival takes place this coming weekend, April 25-28 at Tamanawis Park, Surrey!

This tournament will see 11 boys and girls teams from across BC come together to showcase the skills they have been working on throughout the Regional Program. We are excited to welcome Alberta's U15 girls Provincial Development team to the festival for the first time ever!

FHBC Train 2 Compete Regional Tournament Results
Field Hockey BC congratulates all teams that took part in the FHBC Train 2 Compete Regional Tournament April 11-14 at UBC Wright Field. 11 teams from BC and Alberta competed across the men's and women's division.

The Island Stingrays took gold on the women's side and the Condors came out on top for the men. Click here for the tournament recap.
U18 Provincial Athlete Features
From the Train 2 Compete Tournament, three women's teams and one men's team have been named to represent BC at the 2019 National Championships.

Spring League Opening Day
On April 6, the 2019 Junior Spring Season got underway and we got a chance to catch up with some of the Vancouver Hawks!

Men's National Team: Hockey Series Finals
After a fourth place finish at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, the Canadian Men's National Team is back in Malaysia for the 2019 Hockey Series Final. The Hockey Series Final is the first step in the journey to qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The preliminary matches begin on April 26 when Canada takes on Wales. For the full preview, visit the Field Hockey Canada website.
