Welcome to the March 2019 Cornershot Newsletter! This issue will cover upcoming BC tournaments, league results, coaching courses and news at Field Hockey Canada.
PCE Pathway
Following a successful pilot in partnership with West Vancouver FHC, Field Hockey BC now turns its attention to all stakeholder clubs with the intent to embed the PCE Pathway across the BC field hockey community over the next three seasons.

Register for the Vancouver International Tournament!
The Vancouver International Tournament (VIT) is fast approaching! This year's tournament will take place May 18-20, 2019 at the Burnaby Lake West Sports Complex.

The tournament will include five divisions across three turf fields and one legendary beer garden! Registration for the Vancouver International Tournament (VIT) is open until April 8, 2019.

Last weekend, the Vancouver Women's League wrapped up with a number of exciting playoff match-ups across all divisions! Congratulations to our division Champions:

  • Div 2: North Vancouver Strikers
  • Div 3: North Vancouver Thunder
  • Div 4: Richmond Rebels
  • Div 5: Vancouver Goshawks

Come out to the FHBC Train 2 Compete Regional Tournament!
Next up on our busy tournament schedule is the Train 2 Compete Regional Tournament!

Over 175 Boys and Girls at the U18 level will be travelling from all over BC and Alberta to attend the Regional High Performance Tournament April 11-14, 2019 at UBC Wright Field, Vancouver.

This tournament will be the selection point for the U18 teams that will represent BC at the National Championships in July. We are thrilled to have a team from Alberta attending our Regional Tournament for the first time ever!

John McBryde Celebrates his 80th Birthday
On March 9, Field Hockey BC legend John McBryde celebrated his 80th birthday and played for his Vancouver Greyhawks team in a 2-2 tie against United Brothers.

As one of FHBC's longest active members, we are proud to acknowledge John's amazing milestone. Read more about John's prolific field hockey career on the Field Hockey BC website.
Don't Miss the 2019 Golden Oldies!
We're less than six months from the Golden Oldies Tournament! This legendary tournament will take place in Vancouver September 15-22, 2019.

Registration is open to men and women from around the world over the age of 35. The tournament already has teams entered from 11 different countries! Registration is open until May 30, 2019 or until the maximum number of teams have entered. Get your team in quick to take advantage of this incredible adult field hockey experience!

Call for Officials: 2019 National Championships
Field Hockey Canada is calling for interested umpires and officials to work at the Field Hockey Canada National Championships this summer.

The dates for each tournament are as follows:
U15 July 23 - 28 - Calgary, AB
U18 July 3 - 8 - Surrey, BC
U23 June 29 - July 1 - Surrey, BC

The Men's National Team Compete at the Azlan Shah Cup
The Men's National Team is set to face their first big test of 2019 at the Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia from March 23-30.

The Canadians will be up against some of the toughest teams in the world, coming at a crucial time as they prepare for their Olympic qualifying year. Visit the Field Hockey Canada website for roster information, tournament schedule and updates.

The Canadian Women's National Team have their sights set on Tokyo 2020 and they need your help to make their Olympic dream a reality!

Field Hockey Canada Appoints Susan Ahrens as CEO
Field Hockey BC is thrilled to announce that our former Head Provincial Coach, Susan Ahrens, has been appointed as CEO of Field Hockey Canada.
