CSU partners with Riverside County to launch first-ever direct admission pilot
Exciting news for Riverside County high school seniors!
The CSU has partnered with the Riverside County Office of Education to offer the first-ever direct admission pilot for the CSU system. Eligible students at every public high school in Riverside County will soon be offered direct admission to the CSU, including Cal State San Bernardino, for the fall 2025 term, before they even apply.

CSUSB Palm Desert Campus nursing faculty member receives prestigious award from American Psychiatric Nurses Association
CSUSB Palm Desert Campus nursing instructor, Diane Vines, was honored by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) at a special awards ceremony in Louisville, Ky.
Vines received the “Award for Innovation – Individual” at the APNA 38th Annual Conference for her work as the founder and executive director of the CSUSB Nursing Street Medicine Program.

Dr. Bob Leo
Dr. Bob Leo began teaching communication studies for CSUSB when the university first operated in portables on the College of the Desert campus in 1994, and has been teaching at CSUSB (at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses) since then. When the permanent CSUSB Palm Desert Campus on Cook St. opened in 2002, Dr. Leo was one of the first instructors assigned to teach at the campus.
Dr. Leo has been recently elected as Chair for 2024-25 of the Finance Committee for the City of Palm Desert. He was first appointed in 2015 by the city council. The five-member committee advises the city council on auditing and internal controls, financial reporting, investments, municipal debt and other financial items.

Dr. Sarah Dunn
Dr. Sarah Dunn, associate professor of kinesiology at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, presented a symposium at the 2024 Annual Southwest American College of Sports Medicine Conference in Irvine, CA. The title of the presentation was “Implementing the C.U.R.E. in Exercise Science/Kinesiology Classrooms.”
Dr. Dunn says that she has been successful at the implementation of the C.U.R.E (course based undergraduate research experience) in her classroom and has shown that this active learning strategy improves student self-efficacy, involvement and engagement in the classroom, leading to greater co-curricular participation in kinesiology.

Dr. Ezekiel Bonillas, assistant professor of entrepreneurship at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, was recently honored with a special proclamation from the City of Palm Desert in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Join our Hospitality Management Program for a food and wine pairing fundraising event to benefit the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) student chapter.
The Events Management students have been working hard this semester to plan this special event and Wally's Desert Turtle is sponsoring the food.

Proceeds from the event will go toward student travel to the annual HFTP Convention next October.

Nursing Dedication Ceremony
The CSUSB Department of Nursing held a special "Dedication to the Profession of Nursing" event at the Palm Desert Campus.
This meaningful ceremony celebrates and welcomes the new class of nursing students into the nursing profession.
The ceremony for the Class of 2026 nursing students at the Palm Desert Campus included the donning of white coats, the signing of the Honor Code Book and the recitation of the ceremonial nursing oath, along with encouraging remarks by university faculty and administrators.
Having family and friends in the audience made the ceremony extra special!

Nursing Meet & Greet
The CSUSB Career Center hosted its inaugural Nursing Meet & Greet at the Palm Desert Campus, connecting 40 PDC students with some of the top healthcare employers in the industry.
A big thank you to all of the organizations that participated, including Eisenhower Health, Desert Care Network, the U.S. Navy and West Coast University, for providing valuable opportunities and insights into the nursing field. This event was a fantastic way for students to network, explore career paths and take their first steps toward a fulfilling healthcare career.

In partnership with Riverside University Health System - Behavioral Health, OneFuture Coachella Valley and College of the Desert, the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus hosted the “Let’s Get Psyched” event, where approximately 200 high school and community college students came to campus to learn about mental health and the various career opportunities they can pursue.

Excelencia in Education 2024 Alignment Institute
Dr. Edna Martinez, associate vice president of the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, as well as Veronica Ramirez Amerson, director of the Educational Opportunity Program at CSUSB and Dr. Nancy Acevedo, professor in the CSUSB College of Education, participated in the Excelencia in Education 2024 Alignment Institute with twelve other higher education institutions from across the country, to learn more about different approaches, models, tools and self-assessment strategies to better serve Latino, and all students, at CSUSB.
