Winter update on Playgrounds and Sports Fields

The Township wishes to advise members of the public that staff will be posting signage that the playgrounds and sports fields are not maintained during the winter months and are considered closed until otherwise stated.

King Street Park update

King Street Park has been under construction for several weeks and the project is approaching substantial completion. The Township is strongly encouraging the community, parents and students to not use the park over the winter so that come spring, minimal repairs will be necessary.

The park has been hydro seeded which is a process where grass will eventually grow in the spring. Winter disruption of the hydro seeding can result in prolonging the growing process.

The clay has been placed on the track and would benefit from minimal foot traffic as it settles over the winter months.

As mentioned above, play structures and sports fields are not inspected or maintained during the winter period and the Township ask that caution be used if using the equipment over the winter period.

Ontario Building Code

The 2024 Ontario Building Code came into effect on January 1, 2025, with a three-month grace period until March 31, 2025 for certain designs that are already underway. Please take careful note of the following transition period dates:

Until December 31, 2024

Permit applications must be submitted using the 2012 Building Code

January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2025

Permit applications may be submitted using the new 2024 Building Code, or

Permit applications may be submitted using the 2012 Building Code if the applicant demonstrates that their working drawings were substantially complete by December 31, 2024

April 1, 2025

Permit applications must be submitted using the 2024 Building Code.

January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Local restaurants are coming together to support Dining For Dementia! This initiative aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and work towards a community where individuals living with dementia are embraced and supported.

Throughout January, participating restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Society of Durham Region (ASDR) to fund vital programs and services for people living with dementia, as well as their caregivers and families. By dining out this month, you’re not only enjoying a great meal, but also helping make a difference!

When you dine, let the restaurant know by sharing your experience and tagging us with #DiningforDementia. To see the list of participating restaurants visit www.diningfordementia.ca
