CAREGIVER'S CORNER

Remember the saying....you can't fill someone else's cup if yours is empty??
You have to take care of YOU before you can effectively take care of someone else. In this day and age of everything moving so fast and a GO GO GO mentality, we have to stop and make time for ourselves as the caregiver. Go for a nice walk on the beach, sit quietly and read your favorite book, take a nice bath, or start simple and take those extra 5 minutes before you get out of bed to just breath. Be grateful for what you do have rather than wishing for what you don't have.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES – ALZHEIMERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY @ LOUIS T. GRAVES MEMORIAL PUBLIC LIBRARY

Sep 20 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Join us on Thursday, September 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm . Anne Romney, with the Alzheimer’s Association Maine Chapter, will be here to talk with us about Effective Communication Strategies for those of us dealing with and caring for our loved ones diagnosed with Dementia.  Communication is more than just talking and listening–it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other Dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with Dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

This program is free and open to the public.
