The Legislation & Advocacy Committee

The Legislation & Advocacy Committee, co-chaired by Leslie Brtek and Pam Tambo, tracks relevant legislation, advises on legislative actions, advocacy and outreach campaigns.   The letters in support of or in opposition to legislation are posted  on our website.

Expressing your support or opposition to legislation via phone call is the most effective way to make your voice counted.  We urge you to express your individual support for the following bills:
  • SB 224 (Jackson) Personal Rights: Sexual Harassment. This is a two-year bill which has already been engrossed (i.e., passed its house of origin). We wrote a letter of support in 2017 and another for 2018, both of which can be found on the website.  Call Senator Jackson at (916) 651-4019 or (805) 965-0707 to express your support.
  • SB 834 (Jackson, Lara) and AB 1775 (Muratsuchi, Limón) State Lands: Leasing: Oil & Gas. This bill seeks  to ensure that pipelines and other infrastructure cannot be built in California waters to support any new federal oil development.  Call Senators Jackson at (916) 651-4019 or (805) 965-0707 and Lara at (916) 651-4033, and Assembly members Muratsuchi (916) 319-2066, and Limón (916) 319-2037 or (805) 564-1649  to express your support.
  • H R 4472 (Speier) and S 2162 (Harris): ENOUGH Act (Ending Nonconsensual Online User Graphic Harassment)
Previously known as the "Intimate Privacy Protection Act of 2016," this bipartisan legislation addresses the malicious sharing of private, explicit images, such as "revenge porn" and "sextortion."  Call Senator Harris (202) 224-3553 and Congressmember Speier (202) 225-3531 to express your support.
The Legislative & Advocacy Committee also tracks policy decisions and voting records of the elected representatives we endorsed.  L&A recently  interviewed Assemblymember Monique Limon, District 47.  Check out her interview  here.
