Jackson's Point replica lighthouses splash colour and pride in downtowns
Within the next couple of weeks, two-foot Jackson's Point replica lighthouses will be hung throughout Georgina's historic main streets in Jackson's Point, Keswick, Sutton and Pefferlaw. The public art and civic pride initiative began in early June with the first of several workshops held at the Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture in Sutton and Artistic Approach Studio in Keswick. Free to the public, residents over the age of five were invited to let their creativity and civic pride shine.
By mid-July, 100 replica lighthouses will be installed throughout the Town bringing a splash of colour, beautification and pride to Georgina's downtowns. This initiative follows the Town's 2021 public art program, where local artists submitted artwork to be displayed on banner flags.
"These initiatives are intended to not only beautify our historic main streets but to instill pride within our community, reminding us as to why we choose to live work and play in Georgina," said Karyn Stone, manager of Economic Development and Tourism. " We look forward to continuing these initiatives."

It is essentially any business that a visitor would access during a short-term or long-term stay. New Keswick residents and business owners found an opportunity in Georgina
It took 10 years for Ali to convince his wife, Sweeta they should make the move north from Richmond Hill to Georgina. Unwilling to give up the conveniences, family and life they had built, now that they’ve made the move, Sweeta doesn’t know what took her so long. She’s even convinced some of her family to move up here as well.
“I love Georgina, and I love Keswick. A large population of people from the Persian and Muslim communities have moved up here recently, and it is becoming a lot more diverse. Georgina offers more space and fewer people but still has plenty of things to do. And, of course, the lake. I noticed a gap in the market for Middle Eastern foods, halal meat and groceries, so we thought, why don’t we provide that here," said Ali.
