Georgina engages with the community to help create its next Economic Development and Tourism Strategy

The Town of Georgina is undergoing the process of developing a five-year Economic Development and Tourism Strategy to strengthen and diversify the local economy. To do this, we engaged with 344 businesses, stakeholders and residents to provide their input. McSweeney and Associates, the consultant hired to develop the new strategy, facilitated one-on-one interviews, focus groups, a public open session and an online survey.

This input, together with other reports, business data and strategies from the Town, will assist in identifying strategic directions, priorities and actions for the Economic Development and Tourism Division. Thank you to everyone who participated and provided valuable input.

Field to Table event continues to support Georgina's thriving agriculture sector

Since 2018, Georgina's farmers have welcomed residents and visitors to their properties on the third Saturday in August for a self-guided tour to learn about agriculture and purchase farm-fresh products. Last year, each location saw, on average, 400 attendees eager to learn about agriculture, experience life on the farm and purchase delicious farm-fresh products.

Our farmers, along with their partners, are excited about this year's event and about educating visitors on the importance of sustainable agriculture. We thank the Regional Municipality of York for their funding support of this event that increases awareness of Georgina’s thriving agriculture community.

Local Spotlight

Long-time downtown business owner recognizes Georgina's growth and talent

Joseph, Georgina resident and owner of Georgina Music in Downtown Sutton, has had the opportunity to see Georgina grow over the years. He first moved to Georgina in 1993 from Toronto, opening Georgina Music on High Street in 1995 and has been there ever since.

Why did he choose Georgina? "There's lots of talent and music here. We're so close to the city and yet it's a whole different environment. I love it here," said Joseph. "People are realizing that we are close to the lake and that they don't need to live in the city. I see it grow every day. I see new people come through my shop."

He sees historic High Street as a cultural hub with so much life and passion that goes into all of the businesses. He is excited to see the future of Georgina, saying, "If you have culture, music and the arts, then the town will grow."
