Town launches tourism data collection project
The Town of Georgina and the Chamber of Commerce have received $2,400 through a partnership with Central Counties Tourism (CCT) to fund a one-year data collection project. The Visitation Pilot Project will use OPTiFi insights to provide metric data to better understand the impact of tourism throughout the municipality. OPTiFi measures the presence of customers in physical spaces via mobile devices but does not store addresses or other identifiers from mobile phones or devices.

Georgina has joined other municipalities to take part in the #ShopLocalYR campaign initiated by York Region. We encourage residents to buy and show support to their local businesses with the Shop Local YR challenge.

Orchard Beach Golf and Country Club
We stopped by Orchard Beach Golf and Country Club to ask Gary Glenister, the General Manager and Director of Golf, about the impact of tourism and the history of the course, which he tells us just happens to be “the birthplace of Hockey Night in Canada.”
“Tourism and the sport of golf go hand in hand,” he said. “Not only do people get an opportunity to come here and play golf, but quite often if they are visiting the community, they’ll go out for dinner, they’ll go to another store, and they’ll buy fuel. So, coming to play golf allows the community to have residual income in other businesses.”

Georgina’s first craft brewery, Turkey Shoot Brewing Co.
Initial rumblings that Georgina would be getting its first craft brewery began in 2020 when local restaurants The Beach and Baileys Homestead started to serve a new locally made beer called Pefferlaw Pale Ale. The community was excited and supportive of the new venture, sharing photos and feedback on social media. Nearly a year later, the on-trend entrepreneurs have started to sell craft beer from their first location in Keswick at 482 The Queensway S. and at LCBOs in Keswick, Sutton and Pefferlaw.
