Vianet to bring high-speed internet to Georgina residents and businesses
Residents and businesses in rural Georgina are one step closer to reliable, high-speed internet.
Vianet recently announced a three-phase fibre optic build in Udora that will utilize the high-capacity fibre backbone built by YorkNet, which was made possible with a funding application submitted by the Town for the federal government's Connect to Innovate program. It was a vital step that has allowed Vianet to service Georgina.
The fibre construction began earlier this month, with crews currently working on installing cable along the roadways. Customers can expect installations to begin in the spring of 2021.
Vianet will be hosting a virtual information session in the new year to discuss this project and answer any community questions.

Ontario helping to cover COVID-19 costs for businesses
The Ontario government is doubling its support to $600 million for businesses that are required to shut down or significantly restrict services due to provincial public health measures, specifically those in control or lockdown, or were previously under modified Stage 2 restrictions. Eligible businesses can apply for rebates in the form of grants, to help with their property taxes and energy bills.
As of Nov. 16, 2020, eligible businesses can apply for temporary property tax and energy cost rebates directly to the province through a single, online application portal. Most businesses can expect to receive their rebate payments within a few weeks of submitting a complete application. A detailed list of eligible businesses can be found at Ontario.ca/covidsupport.

This subsidy will provide payments directly to qualifying renters and property owners, without requiring the participation of landlords.
