What Are Your Most Compelling Success Stories? Get Ready to Share Them During Adult Ed Week
You may not realize how much influence you hold when it comes to promoting adult education. As educators and administrators on the ground level, you watch your students work hard and reach milestones every day. You watch them achieve their goals. You see their confidence boosted. You encourage them to move on to the next challenge in their lives.

That's why you are an ideal pick to help spread the word about adult education, and the perfect opportunity is coming up. Adult Education Week is April 8-12. During this week, you can help bring awareness to adult education and its life-changing potential by sharing with your community what it is, the types of classes you offer and how it benefits the community.

Student testimonials drive the message home, so now is the right time to start identifying those students who have been able to reach their goals through adult education, whether the goal was to earn their GED and learn a career skill or complete their high school education so they could enroll in community college. Be ready to tell their stories - if they are open to that - to show the power of adult education.

The California Adult Education Program TAP will host a webinar about how to use social media to market your adult education program. Register for the webinar here.

Funding Available for English Language Learner Co-enrollment Pilot Program
The Labor and Workforce Development Agency, California Workforce Development Board and the Employment Development Department are pleased to announce the availability of up to $1.2 million in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding for English Language Learner (ELL) co-enrollment pilots.

The funds will support projects that increase access for target populations, align WIOA programs, implement co-enrollment strategies, leverage other program funding and provide supportive services for California’s English Language Learner (ELL) population. An additional $500,000 is available for services to provide coordinated technical assistance and evaluation.

Get background information about the RFA process.

The deadline to submit the application is April 1.
Research & Resources: Riverside ABout Students
Here is an example of some of the great work coming out of the regional planning sessions underway as part of the three-year planning process.

The Riverside ABout Students consortium commissioned BW Research, an independent research firm, to complete research that supports the consortium's strategic planning efforts.

Teachers and Administrators:

Next month, Jacques LaCour will present the Lesson Study Institute, which is designed to advance best practices in professional development at your site and within your consortium - ultimately leading to better outcomes for students and teachers.

The California Adult Education Program Technical Assistance Project (CAEP TAP) wants teams to participate in the institute, which will be in San Bernardino.

Needs Survey Finds Your Peers Want
to Know Your Success Stories
Your colleagues in adult education want to know your successes. Every year we survey adult education practitioners to learn about their needs, and the results revealed sharing of best practices  is a high priority for most of them. They want to hear from, collaborate with and leverage resources amongst other adult education practitioners.

If you're reluctant about highlighting the things working for you, think of it this way: By sharing your program success, you are helping a peer in your field - and you're helping to make adult education in California stronger.

The CAEP TAP would like to showcase your adult education program - on the  California Adult Education website , in the  newsletter and in a  future webinar series .

Submit your success stories in the following areas on the  Practices with Promise website today:

  • Pathways
  • Data and Accountability
  • Teacher Effectiveness
  • The 7 CAEP Program Areas
  • Partnerships and Collaboration
