MARCH 2016
Friday, March 4th marked the end of our quarterly WorkZone program for five amazing young men. They are now working in paid internships at community businesses and organizations to learn even more valuable job skills. We are so proud of their hard work and congratulate each one of them!
WorkZone is an intensive employment training and paid internship program for homeless youth ages 18-20.
The WorkZone program prepares youth for their first job by providing:

* Employment training focused on resume writing, interviewing, and professional workplace behavior
* A 100-hour paid internship at a local business, nonprofit or company
* Support services to address homelessness and other external barriers to employment

Our Peer Outreach Workers participated in the Ypsilanti Youth Summit on 12/5/15

Five members of Ozone House's Street Outreach Team joined youth from the Corner Health Center, Mentor2Youth, Ypsilanti District Library, Growing Hope, The B. Side, Bright Futures, and Washtenaw Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights to discuss how to expand opportunities for young people in Ypsilanti to share their opinions and have their voices heard on issues in the community that impact them. Ozone House Advocates for Homeless and Runaway Youth in Lansing at Dome Day

Several Ozone House staff, Peer Outreach Workers, SpeakOut members, and interns went to Lansing this month to advocate on behalf of homeless and runaway youth. They spoke with representative David Rutledge and representative Jeff Irwin about the needs of homeless youth and the lifesaving services Ozone House provides.
The team played an important role in helping the needs of homeless youth be recognized at the state level.

3  Miller House residents (transitional housing for ages 17-20) transitioned successfully into independent living this month!
373 calls received already in 2016 on our 24-Hour Crisis Line.
21 youth stayed in our emergency shelter, Safe Stay, in the first quarter of this fiscal year.
