SPS engages community in conversation

about Facility Master Plan

Community members learned more about the facility master plan process and provided feedback at meetings this week.

A variety of perspectives from the community were heard during two public meetings and multiple focus groups this week, which were held to provide information and obtain input as part of the Facility Master Plan process.

Nearly 200 parents, community members and employees participated in meetings at Glendale and Central high schools where information was presented about the Facility Master Plan, which is being developed to ensure SPS is able to provide every student access to an equitable educational experience in a school building that is comfortable, safe and educationally appropriate.

“We are at a decision point where our community must make some crucial decisions about how SPS continues to invest in and utilize our school buildings to best serve future generations of students,” explained Dr. Doug Van Zyl, deputy superintendent of operations. “This is an opportunity to create a vision for our school district that will focus our resources to achieve the maximum impact for our students’ educational experience moving forward.”

SPS to transition to new notification system

In November, Springfield Public Schools will transition from its current notification system to a new platform called Messages XR.

This new system provides updated features and will ensure you receive important updates, announcements, and emergency notifications efficiently.

At this time, no action is required on your part. We will share more detailed information and instructions next week.

Thank you for your support as we continue our efforts to improve communications.

I Choose SPS: Paul Goodman, Cross-Category Teacher

"I continue to choose SPS year after year because of its genuine desire to serve all students and meet all the needs represented in our population. The on-the-job training is amazing, and the pay is competitive. Every principal I've worked under has been excellent and has treated both staff and students with care and respect. My colleagues are people of excellence and overall just great humans! I'm locked in for the long haul at SPS!"
