Seeking Volunteers! OMA (Opening Minds through Art)

The JCA Heyman Interages Center is looking for volunteers to join us this winter for an award-winning, evidence-based, intergenerational art-making program called Opening Minds Through Art (OMA).

We are looking for volunteers interested in supporting JCA's Kensington Club members (older adults with early stages of memory loss) as they create abstract art projects that engage the mind and break through cognitive barriers. We also are looking for volunteers to work alongside JCA staff to serve art supplies, provide artistic choices as well as help with set-up and clean-up. OMA is a failure-free program designed to provide older adults with opportunities for creative self-expression and social engagement.

The following six dates led by trained OMA facilitators will be held at the JCA in Rockville and are required to participate. Please contact rlanman@accessjca.org for further details.

The art classes will be held at JCA, 12320 Parklawn Drive, Rockville MD 20852

Fridays, February 28, March 7, 14, and 21 from 9:45 am - 12:15 pm: OMA art classes

PAW's Seniors for Seniors program places older animals in loving homes of older adults.

Partnership for Animal Welfare (PAW) is a non-profit group of volunteers chartered to facilitate the rescue and adoption of homeless domestic animals, mainly dogs and cats, and place them in loving and stable homes.

Prior to adoption, the animals receive veterinary care. For dogs, this typically includes rabies shots, DHLPP vaccines, worming, heartworm tests, and spaying or neutering. Cats normally are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, have received rabies and distemper shots, deworming, and are spayed or neutered.
