Generation Alpha born after 2010

Generation Alpha, or Gen Alpha, is the generation of people born after 2010, and is the first generation to be born entirely in the 21st century. The term was coined by social researcher Mark McCrindle.

We are in the midst of a generational landmark, as Generation Z (born 1995-2009) enter the workforce and Generation Alpha (born 2010-2024) move through their schooling years.

Gen Alpha Translator will translate for you.

Seeking Volunteers

JCA Redland Middle School Dialogues is off to a great start. Volunteers are still needed for this program. Redland Middle School 6505 Muncaster Mill Rd

Derwood, MD 20855 Tuesdays 2:15 – 2:55 pm.

Dialogues Across the Ages brings together adult volunteers and middle school students from the Emergent Multilingual Learner program. There is no need for volunteers to know a second language. Students from the Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML, formerly ESL English as a Second Language) program at Redland Middle School can practice their English skills while engaging in various topics, from family traditions to cultural practices. The program will culminate in a Thanksgiving feast during the last session. We are recruiting adults who excel at listening and also sharing personal stories in an honest, non-judgmental, and open way, allowing everyone at the table to speak and be heard.

Session I:

10/22, 10/29, 11/12, 11/19

Session II starts 11/26

Background check and application required. If you are interested, please contact Indira Dingledine.

Monthly Reading Tutor Training Series

We hope you will join us on Zoom for our monthly Reading Tutor Training series. These sessions are helpful for any volunteers. We are so grateful to presenter Megan Bainbridge, Reading Specialist of the Captain James E. Daly Elementary School, who is leading the sessions. Each session focuses on a different Reading Tutor Training topic, and lasts about an hour. Pre-registration online is required.
