Global Sojourns Giving Circle has lost a champion, a friend with a generous heart, a sharp mind, and capable hands. Bruce, 65, died unexpectedly in his Cranford, New Jersey home on July 30.
How lucky we were to, as Bruce said, stumble on to one another two years ago. We as an organization certainly are better for it.
Bruce’s contributions as a board member and volunteer were substantial. He set his sights high, then put his passion into action. He saw a gap, and he filled it.
He took on difficult, time-consuming projects, and he got them done with style and humor. Intelligent and humbly confident, he wrote a 40-page strategic plan for our small nonprofit. “Take what works for you,” he said.
In the story he wrote for our website explaining why he joined and supports the Giving Circle, Bruce said he “fell in love with Zimbabwe, the people, the Giving Circle girls, and the people who are helping them.” Well, Bruce’s good nature, gentle way and dedication made it remarkably easy for all of us to fall in love with him. Board members, mentors and young people have benefited from the privilege of his kindness and generosity. We thank Ellen for supporting Bruce in his support of us.

From the Giving Circle’s perspective, Bruce was a shining example of living life true to those beliefs. We are grateful that Bruce was a member of our worldwide community, and we will miss him tremendously.
