This past weekend I was able to get out and do a little reffing for one of the local adult leagues. It was great to be back outside, on the field and enjoying a beautiful sunny Spring day. More importantly, how wonderful it was to see friends, players, coaches and referees, who I hadn't seen over the winter months. Soccer brings us together. It's the community that makes this a wonderful game. From all walks of life, ethnic backgrounds, ages and vocations we gather at the field, play the beautiful game and share a common bond.
I encourage all of our leaders, presidents, board members, volunteers to get out to the fields in the next couple of weeks. Say hello, let the players, coaches and referees know who you are and what you do. And do something nice for them: a smile, a pat on the back, a compliment on their game. It has a bigger impact than you realize. Our players are the heart of soccer. Let them know that.
