Dear Billingsville Cotswold Families,
As we turn the calendar to November, I want to take a moment to celebrate an exciting week of learning, school spirit, and community at Cotswold Elementary. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our students, staff, and school.
🧡 Standing Together During Anti-Bullying Spirit Week
This past week, our students and staff participated in Anti-Bullying Spirit Week, focusing on kindness, inclusion, and the importance of treating others with respect.
We kicked off the week wearing orange as a sign of unity, reminding one another that everyone belongs and that kindness matters.
🐾 Pledge for Paws Success!
We have even more to celebrate! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families and community, we raised more than $20,000 through our annual Pledge for Paws fundraiser.
We concluded the week with a favorite tradition, Book Character Day, and our halls were filled with creativity, and excitement.
We are so fortunate to be supported by families who consistently invest in our students and our school. The opportunities provided through these funds directly impact our students' educational experiences, and we are incredibly grateful for your partnership.
🏕️ Fifth Grade Camp Hanes Adventure
This week, our fifth graders participated in their annual overnight trip to Camp Hanes. Students enjoyed a unique blend of outdoor education, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
During their stay, students participated in:
- ⚙️Forces and Motion
- 🤝Team Building
- 🧭Orienteering
- 🏹Archery
- 🌳Forest Ecology
- 💧Water Ecology
They also enjoyed family-style meals, a campfire complete with s'mores, and opportunities to build friendships while learning outside the traditional classroom setting.
A special thank you goes to our teachers, staff members, and chaperones who helped make this incredible experience possible for our students.
🎃Halloween Weekend
For families who celebrate, I hope everyone has a safe, fun, and enjoyable Halloween weekend filled with family, friends, and lots of happy memories.
✏️ Looking Ahead: MVPA Benchmark Testing
When students return to school next week, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will begin MVPA Benchmark Assessments.
These assessments provide valuable information that helps teachers understand student progress toward grade-level standards. The results also give us important EOG projections, allowing us to identify areas of strength as well as standards that may need additional review, intervention, or re-teaching.
To help students perform their best, we ask families to:
✅ Ensure students get a good night's sleep
✅ Eat a healthy breakfast
✅ Arrive at school before the bell rings
Being on time is especially important during testing. Students need a few minutes to unpack, settle into their classrooms, and mentally prepare before assessments begin. Starting the day calmly and on time helps set students up for success.
📚Attendance Matters
As we move into November and December, school schedules naturally become more interrupted with holidays, teacher workdays, and school breaks. While these months can make it difficult to maintain routines, consistent attendance remains extremely important.
Every day of instruction matters. Students who attend school regularly are better able to maintain academic momentum, participate in learning experiences, and stay connected to their classroom communities.
Thank you for helping your child arrive at school daily and before the bell so they are ready to learn from the moment instruction begins.
