Dear Friends, this coming Sunday November 21 is the last day in the church calendar. It is called, "Christ the King" Sunday. Because, in the end, Christ is King. But this is a rather recent addition to the church liturgical calendar. In 1925 Pope Pius XI initiated the addition, following WWI. Pius XI was troubled by all the divisions, hostilities, the rising nationalism, and believed true peace could only be ushered in by Christ as King. Only under the reign of God is peace possible. Seems to be a rather timely reminder for us in our day, too!

This Sunday I will attempt to share my thoughts on what was Jesus' clear mission: ushering in the Kingdom of God. The three synoptic gospels, (Matthew, Mark, Luke), all state that when Jesus publicly declared his mission, he did so by announcing the Kingdom of God had come near. But, what did he mean by "kingdom"? What does it mean to call Christ "King"? How do we become peacemakers in Jesus' footsteps? I don't believe I have all the answers but I do believe our lives should revolve around those questions, especially because Jesus' life, death, and resurrection did.

We pray: Ruler of All Creation, of Space and Time, of Our Hearts, stir us to seek understanding what it means to live in Christ's mission of ushering in the Kingdom of God. Grant insight by your Spirit, and enlighten us in our words and deeds. Amen

Pastor Jim
COVID-19 Update

With Minnesota COVID numbers surging, and in an effort to make Rejoice a safer place for all, we have rearranged seating in worship to provide more space between us. We continue to recommend masking up. Maintaining a 6-foot distance between us as much as possible, is also recommended.
ELCA National Youth Gathering Registration Deadline

We have mailed and emailed information to students about the 2022 National Youth Gathering next summer. The deadline for registering is November 21. Please fill out a registration that was mailed or stop by the youth ministry table.
Growing Our Rejoice-Full Prayer Vigil

Have you signed up to participate in our prayer vigil Saturday, December 4? Time slots are split into 20-minute segments between 8 a.m. to Noon. You can pray in church or at home. Materials will be available to assist in your prayers. Sign up at the Welcome table.

This Prayer Vigil is a time for our community of faith to come before God to acknowledge that we are the body of Christ, and to ask for God’s guidance and presence tomorrow as we complete our individual commitments. Even if you are alone in the sanctuary, this is a community time, for this prayer vigil is an action of our entire congregation.
As you spend time in prayer, be certain to thank God for all that God has done for you and for our congregation, and ask for God’s guidance in your own life and in the congregation’s life. Here are some Bible texts for reflection and some possible prayer subjects to pray about for yourself and for the congregation as a whole.

Thank you for bathing our Rejoice-Full future in prayer.
