Come! Remember! Celebrate!
This Sunday, November 4, is All Saints Sunday. As we gather for worship we will celebrate the fact that all who have been baptized into the life and death of Jesus are part of the great cloud of witnesses, whether they be those of us pressing on here and now in this earthly race of life, or, those who have already gone before us and now lay claim to the promise of eternal life. In litany and prayer we will intentionally name and remember those who have died this past year as well as those who have been newly baptized.
This year we will also celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion remembering that the small taste of bread and wine that we receive here and now is only a foretaste of the feast to come that are beloved ones are already celebrating for all of eternity. As we come to the Table each person will be given the opportunity to light a candle in memory of their beloved one(s) and place it in the containers that are in front of the altar. The candles will continue to burn throughout the rest of the service as a reminder that “ we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses...” ( Hebrews 12.1) and that Christ’s Table and this Kingdom of our loving God is oh, so much larger than we can see or imagine!

So, come! Remember! Eat, drink and celebrate the promise and assurance of life and forgiveness that is ours in Jesus!

Pastor Marlene
