Bill, Izzy, and Me Makes Three!
“Never say never” has been one of my live-by maxims – especially after our beloved 12 year old basset hound left us two years ago. We will never have another dog – too much work, makes us too tied down, too hard to say good bye. However, as of June 29, I’m unabashedly eating those words as I succumbed to my husband’s longing and the heart-melting face of an energetic puppy who is now affectionately known as “Izzy.” So here “we” are to serve with you!

I’m what is often referred to as a second career pastor with my first vocation being school
district administration. (U of MN alum, business and accounting.) All 24 years of ministry have been in the SWMN Synod, serving two settled calls over the first 20 years: Tracy Lutheran (Tracy,) and First English Lutheran (Ortonville). Since retirement wasn’t initially my forte, the Spirit challenged me for another three years with the joy-filled opportunities of serving as interim in Paynesville, Becker, and St Cloud. Since we live on the far western side of the state, (the tip of the bump-out on the map of MN,) at the conclusion of my time in St Cloud it finally seemed reasonable and right to stay home and enjoy living on Big Stone Lake. But, once again, the Holy Spirit surprised me and stepped in with the opportunity to come and serve with all of you here at Rejoice!

In the days and months to come, no doubt you’ll hear more about us – especially as Izzy seems to like coming to work with me (no one has objected that has met her so far! But it won’t be a regular happening after this week.) And if you’re willing to share stories about you and your family, I’d be more than willing to tell you about our three children, (all girls and all born in different countries,) two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren ranging in age from 15 to 30 years of age. (I know – it makes me sound really old, but I’m pretty sure we got married in kindergarten!!)

I look forward to meeting all of you and trust that you will be patient with me as I learn new names!

Blessings & Peace!
Pr Marlene

Sponsor a Bible
Rejoice will be giving  Spark  Bibles to three-year-olds and third graders during both worship services on Sunday, October 7. Included in each Bible is an envelope and book plate; if you would like to sponsor a Bible, simply place cash or check into the envelope and fill out the correct information included on the front. You may put the envelope in the mail, offering plate, or bring it to the church office. Sign the book plate (optional) we’ll take care of the rest!

Suggested amount to sponsor either a Story Bible or Gift Edition Bible is $20 each. Please know any amount will be received with gratitude and thanks for your generosity! Thank you, thank you!
Confirmation Mentoring
We’re looking for adults, five men and eight women for our thirteen eighth graders, who love kids, love Jesus, and will commit to a faith-building relationship with one eighth grade confirmation student for the 2018-19 school year.

Requirements include meeting with one student regularly (a couple times a month) from mid-October through early May, typically on Wednesday evenings, and making an effort to support that student in their walk with Christ. Extras include sending cards, praying for your student, meeting them at church, and finding ways to make them feel loved and accepted by the church as a whole!

If you are interested, please fill out a form on the Youth & Family table and place in the office drop box. Thank you and bless you for the difference you’ll make in a kid’s faith life!
