This Sunday our theme is #ExcelLENTtemptation.

Hashtags are ways to search for related materials online. We're being hashtagged to make the most of this Lenten season by tying together our Sundays in Lent with all the rest of the days in each week.

Our focus Sunday is on temptation around Mark 1:9-15:
Mark 1:9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11 And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased." 12 And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news."

All of us have at one time or another, found ourselves in a wilderness. During these times of trial and temptation, I hope we can also see how God has sent us angels to comfort our hearts in all our doubts and uncertainties. It has me wondering what role this experience had in shaping Jesus and his mission to announce the arrival of the kingdom of God, and call for repentance and open hearts to the good news the kingdom brings? Can you look back at your experiences of temptation and see how they shaped you to be the person you've become? Just maybe, temptation is a good thing.

We pray: Jesus, impart to our human hearts your will and power to resist temptation, and send us your angels to help us as we seek to follow you. Amen.
