July 10, 2019
Dear Village Resident ,
The village is saddened to inform everyone of the passing this week of several of our past village officials. Bob Martens served the Village from 1986 - 2005, first as a Zoning Board of Appeals Commissioner and then as Village President for 12 years, from 1993 - 2005. He loved Spring Grove and accomplished much during his tenure, helping to maintain our small town atmosphere during expansive residential and retail growth. He passed away on July 5. Ed Kalasa served as the Director of Public Works and as the Building & Zoning Officer for 16 years, from 1991 - 2007. Ed will be remembered by many for his superior service and engaging personality during the village's booming years. He passed away on July 8. Lastly, Russ Chambers, a long time resident who served as a member of our Zoning Board of Appeals, passed away on July 7.
4th of July Update
Kelly Popelka, President of the 4th of July Committee, would like to thank everyone who came out to the festivities on the 4th! She would also like to thank all who donated to the fireworks show, which is funded entirely by donations and parking fees, and especially the 4th of July Committee and to all those who volunteered, as this event would not be possible without them. They will soon start planning for 2020 and are confident it's going to be amazing! Email them here if you would like to volunteer, as they can always use more wonderful people. They want your feedback! Take their SurveyMonkey poll , to let them know what kind of music you would like to hear next year. View more photos of the day here !

Retirement of Fire Chief Rich Tobiasz
President Eisenberg presented Rich Tobiasz with a Community Service Award on his retirement as Fire Chief of the Spring Grove Fire Protection District at the July 2 board meeting. Rich started his tenure at the Fire District in 1982. In addition to his many years of service, he graciously volunteered his time and talents at many ceremonies, historical performances, fundraisers, school events, and village festivals. Thank you, Rich, for your dedication and commitment to the fire service and to the Village of Spring Grove! We hope to continue to see you around the community for many years to come!

Mediacom Outage
The Mediacom outage from yesterday resulted when someone damaged their fiber at a very crucial point, affecting most of their Northeast Illinois systems. Because of all the different fibers coming into that point, it took longer to repair than normal. Mediacom apologizes for any issues or inconvenience this may have caused you. If you run a home business, consider using your phone as a temporary hotspot. Larger businesses may want to consider a back-up service to prepare for situations like this, which are not uncommon for any cable company. View additional providers here . The village would encourage any new provider that showed interest in providing service in our area.
