Studio life . . .
Adorable ceramic pigs
Pigs are popular
In the Chinese zodiac 2019 was the year of the pig. But it seems the pig's popularity has continued strong into 2020, at least among potters here at the studio. According to the Chinese zodiac , people born under the sign of the pig are " diligent, compassionate, and realistic."

Other adorable animals enjoying special attention from potters include cats, dogs, rabbits, turtles, and more. In fact, we're developing quite a menagerie on the Wall of Flame. Perhaps creating ceramic animal friends brings us a special source of comfort during the pandemic.
Ready, glaze, fire!
Here's the tentative date for our August gas kiln firing:

Tuesday, August 18

As usual, we will fire in August when we have accumulated enough pieces to fill the kiln, so glaze, glaze, glaze now. Be sure to check with the studio for August firing updates.
Your bisque ware . . .
. . . awaits you. If you have bisque ware on our shelves that was fired in July , please glaze it or pick it up and take it home by Sunday, August 30 . Regrettably, any unclaimed bisque ware remaining after that date must be discarded to make room for new work.
Potter's quick tip
Q. Slips? Underglazes? Glazes? W hich do I apply and when? I can't keep track. Please clarify for me.

A . Here's potter Jane Scott with a rundown on the differences between slips, underglazes, and glazes and when to use each one. Understanding these options will greatly expand your surface design palette.
