Pottery pickup
Our bisque and glazed ware shelves have begun filling up fast in preparation for the holiday season, so we must move earlier pieces on to make room for the latest ones. Here is our deadline for picking up bisque and glazed ware on studio shelves:
Glaze and bisque ware from September will be kept until October 31.
If you have items on our shelves from September, please pick up your glazed pieces and take them home to enjoy. Please glaze your bisque ware now or take it home for glazing in the future.

Job opportunity
Studio intern
We're interviewing potential studio interns for fall and winter to help with studio maintenance in exchange for studio use. The successful applicant should know how to mix glaze, load kilns, mop floors, and perform other typical studio duties. An internship is a great experience and resume building opportunity. Please send a letter of interest, including your previous pottery studio experience, to Kay Yourist.

Take a world tour of ceramics
It's free. No vaccines or passports are required. And you can tour ceramics museums, galleries, and studios around the world from the comfort of your recliner.
The Museum of Ceramic Art, New York, brings you Ceramic World Destinations (CWD), which it labels the "Google Map" of ceramics. MOCA-NY explains that its virtual platform "reveals the global, diverse, and universal appeal of clay. The thousands of destinations listed are an alternative means to 'travel,' opening new opportunities, prospects, and inspirations."
Just bring up the CWD interactive map, choose your destination, and go.

Mathematicians will tell you that you can't square the circle, and mathematically speaking they are right. But potters know that you can throw a cylinder on the wheel and then square it off, as demonstrated here by potter Sarah Wells Rolland. For added interest, Rolland applies surface decoration to her piece using a thumb tool before she changes its shape.
You can see more of Rolland's work on her Instagram page.
Want to know why mathematicians say you can't square the circle? The answer's here.

Hey, hand builders, are you looking for new shapes to try? Here's potter Ann Ruel of Little Street Pottery with three projects, each created using a different technique, and free downloadable templates for you as a bonus.
