Studio life
Cleaning sponges
It's a dirty job . . .

. . . but we all have to do it. A thorough cleanup is an integral part of the practice of making ceramic art. The primary goal of studio cleanup is to avoid letting clay or glaze dry on any surface in the studio.

Of course the wheels, the hand-building tables, and the areas surrounding them must be cleaned and mopped thoroughly after use, but here are some of the more neglected areas of cleanup, where clay or glaze might linger and dry if not cleaned off:

  • Sponges
  • Sinks
  • Ware boards and bats
  • Water containers and other studio tools
  • Slab roller and slab mats
  • Wedging table and clay scales
  • Glaze splashes and spills

Keeping the studio clean is essential to a healthy, welcoming studio environment.
Bye-bye, bisque . . .
. . . hello, empty shelves. It's time to clear our bisque shelves for the our busy fall season. If you have bisqueware on our shelves from July or August, please glaze it or pick it up by the given dates:

  • Bisqueware from July by Tuesday, September 3
  • Bisqueware from August by Monday, September 30

Sadly, we must discard any unclaimed bisqueware remaining after these dates.
Ready, load, fire!
Here's our tentative schedule for the September gas kiln firing;

Loading : Tuesday, September 24
Firing : Thursday, September 26

Keep in mind that this schedule could change depending on the supply of pieces available for firing. Be sure to check with the studio for firing schedule updates.
