Youth Action Network
June Newsletter
The Santa Cruz County Youth Action Network (YAN) is a newly reformed initiative (formerly known as the Youth Violence Prevention Network) building a multi-sector collaborative of youth, adult allies, community partners, stakeholders, and youth-serving organizations across Santa Cruz County to increase youth voice and youth leadership in local decision making.
Youth Action Network Updates
Connecting with Congressman Jimmy Panetta
This month we had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Jimmy Panetta, where we shared our vision and goals for the Youth Action Network! Congressman Panetta was supportive of our next steps and is excited to collaborate with us in the future! We greatly appreciate his time to learn about how he can contribute to amplifying youth voices and strengthening youth-adult partnerships throughout our community.

And a special thank you to Emily and Isaac from the YAN Planning Committee Team for representing YAN and their partnering organizations, Friday Night Live & Aptos Community Youth Program!
YAN Jurisdictional Representation
In June, City of Capitola Mayor Yvette Brooks was appointed by Capitola City Council to serve as a Jursiditional Representative to YAN. In this role, she will support and advise the steering committee and network on local decision-making! We look forward to working with her and other upcoming Jurisdictional Representatives from across the county.
" I have dedicated nearly my entire life to ensuring all children have the opportunity to thrive because I understand that investing in our youth will have a long-term impact on not just their future but ours as well. I am excited because this is an opportunity to continue my work and dedication to our community. In my time with YAN, I hope to encourage and inspire other jurisdictions to dedicate resources and their time, just as the City of Capitola has. We need to focus on the whole family in our Communities and that begins with our youth. Thank you again for the opportunity to be part of the team. It is an honor to continue my work through United Way's Youth Action Network."
