Youth E-Chat: March 9, 2021
Dear Friends,
I know many of you are starting to plan ahead for the ELCA Youth Gathering and wondering what will be happening for the Synod Journey. A couple weeks ago the ELCA Youth Gathering shared this update:
“Gathering leadership continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and how it may impact the 2022 ELCA Youth Gathering, the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event (MYLE) and the tAble. Many of those impacts remain unknown this far in advance of the event dates. We plan to provide an update on the Gathering’s viability later this summer (before registration opens) and again in late November or early December. We will continue sharing updates through Gathering communication as we learn more about the projected state of the virus in July 2022. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these details with an ever-changing virus.”
The Synod Journey team and I have begun conversations on what we will offer for 2022. What we know: we will offer a Synod Journey. What that will look like is yet to be determined! We also know that congregations will need time this fall to re-connect with youth and begin fundraising. So our current plan is to push back the typical timeline not only to help congregations, but also to give us extra time to align our plans with any changes the ELCA Youth Gathering might make. Tentatively we plan to announce the Synod Journey plan in August and post the registration materials at that time. Registration will be held later in October.
In the meantime, I encourage you to continue to use the Synod Journey Curriculum this spring and through the summer! No matter the final plan for the Synod Journey and the ELCA Youth Gathering, we know that we are deeply rooted in a boundless God beyond measure!

Together in Christ,
Catherine Anderson

LYO Leadership Initiative
Over the last two decades, the LYO has built a culture of youth/adult ministry that cultivates deep and trusting relationships, builds community, nurtures faith, and sends youth out to serve the church and world.
It’s now time to expand the LYO to engage congregations to do the same!
Now more than ever our world needs leaders who can step into the loneliness, grief, anxiety, and stress youth and adults are experiencing to bring the hope and love of Christ. Are you ready to learn and serve in this way?

Camp SJ
June 27-29, 2021
Camp Onomia and Camp Vermilion
For Youth Currently in Grades 8-12 and their Adult Leaders
$100 per person

Camp SJ is an opportunity to gather with NE MN Synod congregations to be in community to play together, build relationships, and be deeply rooted in Christ Jesus as we process the year we experienced, naming our grief and being reminded of the hope we have in Christ. The NE MN Synod will provide the curriculum, based on this year's "Deeply Rooted" curriculum and creed. Camp Onomia and Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry will take care of the rest - registration, program structure, safety protocols and communicating with participants. The NE MN Synod is grateful for their partnership to provide this 3-day retreat at an affordable rate so high school youth and their adult leaders can be together safely for a fun and meaningful faith experience!
