Last week when the arctic air hit the Northland, I started receiving texts from my southern friends. "Just checking on you...Are you ok...?" I realized after the third text that Duluth temperatures must have hit the news. I was so knee deep in upcoming event preparations it took me a couple beats to figure out what they were talking about! Why? Because we're used to cold weather around here. Sure, we like to complain about it. But we know how to dress. We have buildings with insulation. Our bodies are acclimated (well, for the most part...!) As I told my friends - we're built for this. I was more concerned for them as they searched for sweaters and heaters to make it through their own cold snap.

Faith formation is a lot like living in a cold climate. You don't prepare for it when it hits...you prepare months ahead of time, and over the course of a lifetime. How are we preparing young people to know how to dress for faith? How are we surrounding them with the love of Christ that will insulate them from the harsh winds of this world? How are equipping them with faith practices that will sustain them through whatever they may face?

This is the work you do. With the Holy Spirit working through you, you are built for this work. Thank you for answering the call to nurture faith in young people. You are in my prayers as you walk with them in the cold (and warm!) days of their life and faith journey!

Cardia Deo
March 2-4, 2018 Cardia Deo Logo
Grades 9-12
Big Sandy Camp, McGregor

Registration now open!
Early Bird Deadline: Feb. 1
Last day to register: Feb. 16

We are Called, Gathered, Equipped and Sent to share the Heart of God (Cardia Deo) in the world. This year we focus on what it means to be Gathered. Youth and adults will dig deep into Bible studies to wonder together how being Gathered changes everything - who we serve, who we see who we care for, where we go, and how we see Jesus.

Cardia Deo is a full weekend of fun and faith-nurturing activities including Bible studies, service learning, worship, a mstery event, and camp life - all planned and led by the LYO Board! The weekend also includes an adult track led by the retreat chaplain to feed the faith of our adult leaders as well!

LYO Applications
Grades 9-11
Applications Due February 15, 2018

LYO
Do you have youth in grades 9-11 who are faith-filled leaders and are ready for a deeper commitment of leadership through serving the youth in our synod? Encourage them to apply for the LYO Board! The LYO Board is a selected group of leaders who participate in a week long leadership training camp, then plan and implement the Middle School Gathering and Cardia Deo events. Applications are now posted at www.nemnsynod.org/LYO . Be sure to have youth read through the expectations, dates and responsibilities before applying.
Time to Register for Camp!

Start Promoting Camp Today!

One of the strongest indicators young people will grow up to live a faith-filled life is spending a week at camp. Why? They are immersed in faith conversations for an entire week, given leadership opportunities in which to live out their faith, offered silence to hear God speak, provided space to ask questions and share doubts, have intergenerational role models with staff and other campers...and the list could go on.

Encourage youth to get to camp this summer! Support them financially as a congregation. Offer weeks in which your church attends together. Promote family camps and the specialty camps all of our Outdoor Ministry sites offer. Camp makes a difference...don't let your youth (and adults!) miss out!

Did you know...many of our camps have Early Bird deadlines in mid-February. Don't miss this cost saving opportunity!

Support the Outdoor Ministry site your church sponsors, or check out one of these in our own backyards!
