Youth E-Chat: February 2, 2021
Dear Friends,

I invite you today to this breath prayer from the Synod Journey curriculum, “Grounded in Community.” This session looks at the story of Ruth and Naomi in Ruth 1:1-18. Ruth says to Naomi, “Where you go, I will go.” Ruth’s commitment to stay with Naomi through difficult times is a lesson to us in self-sacrifice and the power of being grounded in community…and a reminder of our boundless God’s commitment to relationship with us.

(Take a few breaths to center yourself)

As you breathe in the words “Where you go” and breathe out the words “I will go,” give thanks for the gift of community, for the people that stay with you.
(Take a minute to breathe and give thanks)

As you continue to breathe in and out, “Where you go, I will go” – be reminded that this is God’s promise to you. God promises that where you go God will be.
(Take a minute to breathe and remember God’s promise)

On your last few breaths in and out who is God calling you to journey with through pleasant and difficult times?
(Take a minute to breathe and consider the community God is calling you to)

Amen.

Together in Christ,

Camp Onomia and Camp Vermilion
For Youth Currently in Grades 8-12 and their Adult Leaders
$100 per person

Camp SJ is an opportunity to gather with NE MN Synod congregations to be in community to play together, build relationships, and be deeply rooted in Christ Jesus as we process the year we experienced, naming our grief and being reminded of the hope we have in Christ. The NE MN Synod will provide the curriculum, based on this year's "Deeply Rooted" curriculum and creed. Camp Onomia and Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry will take care of the rest - registration, program structure, safety protocols and communicating with participants. The NE MN Synod is grateful for their partnership to provide this 3-day retreat at an affordable rate so high school youth and their adult leaders can be together safely for a fun and meaningful faith experience!

Mental Health Moment
"Just like we build up our physical muscles (by going to a gym or exercise class) we also must build up our mental strength. Some ways we can do this are practicing being present (mindfulness), getting rid of unhealthy behaviors, naming and acknowledging our feelings and then identifying tools that can help us manage those feelings, and practicing gratitude."
