Newsletter February 2023

youth empowerment matters

Hello! My name is Reese, I’m a Partner at More Than Words and I am your author for this quarter's newsletter! I found out about More Than Words through my therapist and have been a part of it for 5 months now. More Than Words has been a great fit for me because it’s given me a space to hone my working skills and make new connections with others that I wouldn’t be able to otherwise. I work in Boston in Online Operations and am excited to update you!

what's going on at more than words?

Advocacy Event

With our alumni and adult staff Coordinators Jake and Jarris leading the way, More Than Words hosted a joint advocacy event with UTEC, Citizens for Juvenile Justice, the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, and the Transformational Prison Project. There was a panel that included members from all walks of life discussing what justice meant to them and presentations legislation and how to make sure youth and marginalized voices are heard.

Gathering and Celebrating

From Thanksgiving through the holiday season, More Than Words youth and staff gathered around hot meals. We also had our first ever More Than Words alumni reunion! Alums spanning our history from early days to now came through to connect and celebrate how far they’ve come. There was good food, good music and good company and lots of hugs.

Youth Promotions at More Than Words

Along with all the exciting things going on at More Than Words, my own personal journey has been moving forward. My Performance Review for Senior Partner is coming up. During each level youth are given the opportunity to be promoted, and each promotion comes with its own responsibilities and expectations. Youth meet with their Youth Development Manager and Business Training Manager to discuss our strengths and growth areas, we review our Key Performance Indicators (data) and check our progress on our SMART goals. Senior Partner is the highest promotion and it’s an honor to be able to say I’ve made it far enough to be considered for the position!
