Elder Nominations Open

The Nominating Committee members are: Libbie Reiss (chair), Maureen Herring, Emma Pegues, Sally Wimberly, Nell Lanier, Paul Curry, Pierce Young, and (inadvertently left off) Jessie Bruggers. The committee has begun their work of discerning leaders to serve on the session in the Elder Class of 2028. These are three-year terms. Know a Youth Group Looking for a Summer Mission Trip?
This summer, SCAPC will host Camp RHINO, a rebuilding camp that SCAPC has run since 2012. With around 100 youth and chaperones joining us over four weeks in June and July, we anticipate no shortage of volunteers ready to get their hands dirty!
| |
During the day, groups will work with eight of our community partners to participate in a variety of services in the greater New Orleans area. At night after we eat dinner, our Associate Pastor will lead worship activities including scripture reading, simulations, songs, prayer stations, and group discussions. To learn more about Camp RHINO, visit rhinonola.org or contact us at rhino@scapc.org. | |

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
February 16 - May 18 | Land Building Riverside Room
In its tone, structure, and portrayal of Jesus, the Gospel of John differs greatly from the other three gospels. It lacks the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord’s Prayer, and any parables. John’s story of Jesus is theologically complex, interweaving themes of light and darkness. He presents Jesus as originating “from heaven,” making him more divine than he appears in the other gospels. Underscoring the conflict between those who accepted Jesus as Messiah and those who did not, this gospel has raised intense dilemmas regarding Christianity’s view of Judaism. This Sunday's topic is "Testimony Concerning the Word", led by Larry Hamric.
HALF TRUTHS: "GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES"...AND OTHER THINGS THE BIBLE DOESN'T SAY
Sundays, February 2 – 23 | Phifer Library
They are simple phrases. They sound Christian--like something you might find in the Bible. We will compare some common Christian clichés with the wisdom found in scripture. The clichés include "Everything happens for a reason"; "God helps those who help themselves"; and others.
Please note the "Individual in the Institution" class will not meet the next two Sundays and will resume on March 9.
