Greetings dear friends!
We live in a society programmed to never admit to our weaknesses, and better yet, hide them above all else. Pretending to be perfect and masking our true selves, flaws and all, is exhausting. To be fair, to show up as God made us, perfectly imperfect, is intimidating. We spend so much time and energy wondering what others think of us, doing what others expect of us, that we fail to honor how we are made in God's image, and miss the opportunities God is giving us to show up for our fellow perfectly imperfect sisters and brothers.
When Jesus says, take up your cross and follow me, I can't help but think that God is blessing us, commissioning us, to go out into the world with our imperfections and flaws on display for the sake of our neighbor. It is no small feat to show up admitting you don't have it all together, but when we do, when we lose the distractions of what others think we should do, should say, should look like, we can focus more on love and service to the world.
