Youth Services Newsletter & Summer Reading Wrap-Up

Welcome to the new Youth Services Newsletter, a monthly offering that I hope will be informative and inspirational and make keeping track of resources easier. If you have suggestions for what to include here, please send them my way!

As Summer Reading draws to a close, I want to say again how impressed I am with the creativity and engagement shown in programs around the state - those I was able to visit in person, and those I experienced through social media posts or email. We are fortunate to have such dedicated library staff serving our New Mexico patrons.

Please take advantage of opportunities to provide feedback to CSLP about future programs and this year's materials (see surveys below). August 31st is the deadline for completing the Summer Reading Library Survey and entering any paper Parent Surveys. These surveys are required for federal reporting and make your library eligible for the 2023 Manual and merchandize voucher.

The in-person Summer Reading Training Workshops will be returning this Fall!  Stay tuned for locations and details. AND, look for the book raffle entry in this newsletter.

NEW BOOK:

Anime Clubs for Public Libraries : a Practical Guide for Librarians

by Chantale Pard

This guide shows exciting examples of how libraries are implementing anime programming, and why staff need not identify as a fan in order to serve this passionate community. Other content includes how to obtain public performance rights, where to find representations of diverse communities, and how to avoid cultural appropriation.

You can request this and any of the print books from the New Mexico State Library through your library's InterLibrary Loan service. See the New in LIS LibGuide for our new books. Questions? Email: [email protected]
