It's Fall! and what a beautiful time of year in New Mexico!

We are busy planning site visits and our Fall Youth Services Workshops and it is the perfect time of year to drive around our beautiful state. See dates and locations for our Workshops below - registration details coming soon!

Carmelita Aragon and I had a great day at the New Mexico State Fair talking to hundreds of families about the resources available from to them through our state public libraries.

I recently got to learn more about the unique Children's Plant Exchange program at the La Farge branch of the Santa Fe Public Library and highlight it on the NMSL Hitchhiker blog. You can read the full article here.

I will be presenting at the New Mexico Library Association Annual Conference in Albuquerque on Friday, October 28th (the same day as the Youth Author Luncheon!) and will be at the NMSL table with other awesome state library staff - please come say hello! If you haven't had the chance to register for NMLA yet - see full details below.

November is

Native American Heritage Month

Although in New Mexico we are more likely to acknowledge and include our Native communities year-round, for the rest of the country November can bring an emphasis on indigenous and native communities and accomplishments. Cassandra Osterloh is the Tribal Libraries Program Coordinator for the New Mexico State Library and is a resource for all our state libraries. If you would like guidance or support in developing your library collections, programming, or community outreach - you can contact Cassandra at [email protected]

Little Makers: Program Planning and Implementation

On Demand Webinar: Recorded September 21, 2022

"Based on the successful Little Makers program at New Hampshire's Keene Public Library, this webinar will offer insight into running both in-person and virtual making and tinkering programs for children ages 2-6, with parents and caregivers playing a pivotal role. We'll explore why making and tinkering are essential to early childhood development and how you can modify or enhance your current early childhood offerings to best meet the needs of your library and community."

Little Makers: Facilitation and Reflection

On Demand Webinar: Recorded September 28, 2022

"How you become a model and effective facilitator is one of the most important parts of your programming. Equally as important is how you empower parents and caregivers to engage with their young children during your program and once they leave your library. In this webinar, we will explore how the Little Makers program (geared towards children ages 2-6) at New Hampshire's Keene Public Library approached facilitation and gathering feedback from staff and families to make adjustments and keep improving."
