E-Arkive The Electronic Newsletter for Ark and Dove

RENEW! The Green VBS is coming to Ark and Dove this Sunday evening! Register NOW!

Please bring all donated items to the church by 5:00 today. Decorating will begin at 5:30! Come join the Friday night fun and fellowship!

Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

I need some fresh grass clippings.  I know its crazy, but when I asked for leaves, I received commitments for 10 bags.  So if you are in the practice of bagging your grass, and you happen to be cutting grass on Saturday or Sunday could you bring me some grass clippings on Sunday?  I am teaching a short course on composting to children at VBS all week, and we are going to focus on compost on Monday night at the adult class.  Our theme at VBS this week is RENEW, the green VBS, and we are going green all week.  The adult class will be meeting from 6:30 to 8:00 each evening, and we will be using a DVD series called "Serving God, Saving the Planet" as our guide.  We hope you will join us for discussion,  fellowship and spiritual growth.  Part of our work, as a class, will be to discern whether Ark and Dove might feel called to become an official Earth Care Congregation of the Presbyterian Church USA.

Thank you to the 39 households who have pledged to Transformations the Capital Savings Fund.  We have crossed the $150,000 threshold in pledging. Your commitment to our church's future by supporting this three year stewardship effort is deeply appreciated.

Thank you to Adell and Bill Gaurin, Don Zeigler and Ed Barrett for providing adult leadership on our recent Youth and Young Adult Mission trip to the Salem County Habitat for Humanity in New Jersey.  Our group worked on two homes that will be sold to low-income, working families, with interest-free mortgages.

We will commission adult advisors and youth who will be attending the GenOn summit in West Virginia this Sunday at the 11:00 worship service. Wear your past summit t-shirts!  Once again Ark and Dove is sending a large crew to this wonderful youth conference.

Peace of Christ,
Pastor Tim

And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky." So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
- Genesis 1:20-23

Two Prayers by St. Patrick

At Tara today in this fateful hour
I place all heaven with its power,
And the sun with its brightness,
And the snow with it whiteness,
And Fire with all the strength it hath,
And Lightning with its rapid wrath,
And the winds with their swiftness along their path,
And the sea with its deepness,
And the rocks with their steepness
And the Earth with its starkness;
All these I place
By God's almighty help and grace,
Between myself and the powers of Darkness.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven,
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through a might, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
of the Creator of Creation.

Many opportunities await you!

Are you interested in singing at Carnegie Hall next summer? We have the opportunity to sing Faure's "Requiem" at Ark and Dove and then head to NYC to sing at Carnegie Hall! If you'd like to join us, please let me know asap! We need a head count by August.

Happy Friday! This week at the 11:00 service, the GenOn Summit crew is going to be commissioned. To help prepare our hearts and minds to go to summit, the band is going to do the Summit song of the year, called Eye of the Storm by Ryan Stevenson. The song is about trust and overcoming obstacles, and I can't wait to share it with everyone! For a sneak peak, here it is! https://youtu.be/-sx8wTnnfSc

Summer Book Club

What does it mean to be human? Look no further than the ancient poems, letters, and stories of the Bible, says Rob Bell. Bell, a New York Times Bestselling author, speaker, and podcaster, takes an unconventional approach to the Bible. Bell is engaging and will help us rethink our assumptions about Scripture. Pick up or download a copy of his new book What is the Bible? wherever you find books, and we will meet to discuss on July 27 at 7 pm. Contact Pastor Jon with any questions ( jgnelson1985@gmail.com).

Salam Neighbor Movie Screening

ANTI-RACISM AND SOCIAL EQUITY NEW TIME and EVITE! Salam Neighbor: Movie & Discussion on Refugees On Sunday, July 16th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Sanctuary, we will learn about and discuss the plight of refugees and our call as Christians to welcome the stranger. The award winning documentary, Salam Neighbor, provides an intimate look into a Syrian camp in Jordan. Millions who flee war and persecution in their homeland end up in camps, often for years, unable to integrate into the new country, to earn a living, or to give their children a decent education. What can we do and what are we already doing? We will hear from the Refugee Welcoming Team. Please join us in the conversation! Go to the evite at http://evite.me/SHunYwKnFq   to sign up. Contact me if you can make a contribution to the desserts we plan to serve. Linnie Girdner, Lkgirdner@comcast.net or call or text 410-999-7892.
