Jane Goodall: A Time for Hope & Change

On Earth Day, April 22nd, National Geographic will release a new documentary about the extraordinary life of scientist and activist, Jane Goodall.  The 2-hour documentary Jane Goodall: The Hope is set to premiere on Nat Geo, Nat Geo WILD and Nat Geo Mundo. Encourage your families to take advantage of this learning opportunity! 
 

Extend the learning by exploring  Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots website.   Roots & Shoots is a global movement of youth leading change in their communities. Youth who want to do something about the problems facing their community and our world - social justice, pollution, climate change, and more - are provided with the support, resources, tools and leadership training to empower them to take action and lead change in their community. The site also includes a variety of resources for educators and parents to nurture the next generation of compassionate change-makers and leaders with 21st-century learning skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, empathy, and collaboration. 

Girls Who Code at Home

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Girls Who Code is proud to launch Girls Who Code at Home, a weekly series of resources to keep up your learning at home, and ideas on how to stay busy and-most importantly-brave. We hope these resources provide support for parents who are busy working from home, options for educators in need of remote work and-of course-inspiration for our girls. We've always known our girls to innovate and to use code to solve problems facing their communities. These resources are designed to inspire them to create solutions around the issues they care about, and enable them to continue working their bravery muscles through this tough time.

To prevent the spread of coronavirus, Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent Kathy Hoffman have announced the closure of Arizona schools statewide. Ducey said the decision was made to address staffing shortages and to prioritize the safety of children. Although safety must come first, the choice to close all schools in Arizona could probably put a wrench in people's everyday lives, especially parents. Many parents are now homeschooling their children. Here are some resources so that your kids continue learning during this time.
