Youth program makes MARY A. WHALEN gleam!

We have a raft of good news (all maritime puns intended) about progress restoring the MARY A. WHALEN.  Several updates coming! In this one, you can see how the power of youth advances the restoration of woodwork in the wheelhouse. Read on!

We also have an invitation for Thanksgiving. Walk off the bird and pie and come over for #TankerTime with coffee and maritime board games as of 6pm on the big day.

Have you checked out our new digital maritime museum and community guide  Red Hook WaterStories ?

Please support such endeavors and donate to PortSide on #GivingTuesday, the national day dedicating to supporting good works. It's the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, November 29.

Preservation interns bring woodwork back to life!
CTE internship with WHSAD high school
Great to see weathered teak woodwork go from grey to gold! Great to see youth learn to do it!  Read how Christopher, Christie, Cesar, Devere and Jose describe their summer, in their own words.

They learned restoration work and project management skills. We gave them kayak and rowboat time and a harbor tour where they could steer.  Christie added reports to Red Hook WaterStories in English and Creole.  The public-access of our new location has allowed us to grow school programs and CTE summer preservation internship programs like this one with the fantastic Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design (WHSAD).  This program was supported by the NYC Department of Education and ConEd.

Please support the growth of this project, and our other work, and donate now.
